Hey All
So far I am LOVING the drive of my Newell. I left Albuquerque and am now In Oklahoma at the Stafford Air and Space Museum.
Have had a few issues.. but will all get sorted.
The only thing tht is not working that I woud like to use is the jake brake.
Checked fuses in pasenger footwell, relay looks OK..
Switch ON set to HGH..nada/
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Ok, so I know the real answer would be to not do it, BUT I'd really like to be able to park at home the night before a trip and for a few hours after to maybe overnight depending on when we get back. Put down a new asphalt drive 2 years ago and went with 6" of rock topped with 2" of larger aggregate fiber reinforced and 2" fine aggregate fiber reinforced on top of that. Only thing I parked halfway heavy on it was a 40' RV I rented last summer and it did leave very slight dimples where it sat. Only noticeable when it rains where the light hits it just right but nonetheless they are there.
So my thoughts are:
1.) Sandwich two pieces of 3/4 plywood and maybe to 4'x4' on steer and I'm thinking around 4'x8' on the drive/tag. Thinking it would spread that weight out a bit more.
2.) Rip out the asphalt in the areas where the tires will be roughly the same as above and pour concrete there. Seems like a better option, but also thinking it might not look the best.
3.) Rip out asphalt and lay pavers similar to in size to #2 above.
KICKING myself for not spending the money for concrete when I did it. I convinced myself I could get away with the asphalt and only be there for a couple hours on each end to load/unload, but that would not be nearly as convenient as overnight.
Thoughts?
Thanks to Andrew Steele, I am becoming a huge Newell fan.
Spotted this beauty in Lynchburg, VA earlier this week.
Hey all
I am in Albuqurque gettig my newly purchased Newell reay to travel back to New York.
Silly question: What is the normal boost gauge at idle? If I rev the engine (warm) will I see any rise, or only under load?
Also, after shutdown I am hering a hissing leak (?) from he passenger side of the engine ner the top of the compartment and forward.
There MAY be a propanetype smell as well, but that may have been from another coach nearby.
Any answers would be appreciated!
Rick
Hello all, Since we couldn’t be there in person at spearfish during the no rally rally, we thought we would be there in spirit and soak up some sun with herb harmony and Izzy from Austin with our own mini rally . Two classic Newell at one place sure seems cool and odd at the same time. Lol. Thanks to Herb, Harmony. and Izzy for letting us crash your vacation time. Y’all are awesome!!
So,
After a massive hunt and shipping nightmares to get the correct airbags out to the coach and finding someone to replace the two front ones. I am now informed that #423 does NOT have the DANA IFS, but rather the older solid front axle with disc brakes AND ABS. So I have the wrong airbags to replace and I need 4 instead of 2. Ain't THAT a kick in the pants. Every source I had, including Newell, shows it as having IFS! Live and learn.
So the new question is what do I have and what the replacement part numbers are for each axle.
I BELIEVE I have Firestone W01-358-9447 (Goodyear 1R11-066) for the STEER Axle
I Think I have the same on the DRIVE axle
No Idea what is on the TAG
I will be able to do this kind of thing much easier when i am physically at the Coach, but working remotely it's a real P.I.T.A.
If you have any info, I would be appreciative!
I have recently bought a 2009 Newell and have been getting work done on it at Newell HQ. I have been using all 4 air conditioners which have been working even in the triple digits temp currently. All at once, I noticed that the air 3 and 4 in the bedroom were still blowing but not cold anymore.
So I have checked the breakers and they are on and I cycled them and no change. They still blow are but not very cold at all. I have tried the generator to see if there was a power issue and there was no change. I have disconnected and reconnected power and cycled all of the air multiple times to see if there was any change and nothing.
I am wondering what it could be since it was not just 1 unit losing cooling but 2 at the same time. Is there some other breaker or fuse that might cause the compressors to not kick on but the blower motor would still continue?
Thanks if you can help.
2009 Newell P2000i
So when I purchased the Newell the seller had a bag in the engine compartment with some septic hoses and attachments inside. The bag was somewhat like a tarp material. I drove it home about 1000 miles with it. I kind thought it was not the best idea but trusted him and his judgement. Well, I left out a month ago for an adventure. I made it 10 miles and the engine lights came on and I looked and the temps were climbing. It shut itself off like it was supposed to do. I was lucky enough to have a small area off the interstate to pull off. I didn't have to use the "override' function. I went to investigate and found the bad got caught in the engine cooling fan!! It took out 3-4 blades and luckily did no damage to the radiator. Hindsight, it was a bad idea to keep anything, much less anything not secure back there. Not blaming the previous owner, he must have driven smoother than I and had no problems. I must have hit the right bump and did the Dukes of Hazzard routine...without the cool horn.
The next part of the story...trying to figure out the replacement cooling fan. These are not a "general" item. I called Newell and they referred us to their engine supplier. He said they just install what Newell sends them and he would try to find out. He was a nice guy but we never heard from him again. We called several 18 wheeler places, Napa, etc. We had friend that brought one. We installed it and I cranked and my friend said it looked good. It had a little smaller diameter and 7 blades instead of 9. We continued our trip and were driving at night. The temps were a little higher than before but we were in Texas. Once I made it to the destination, I continued the process of trying to find the exact replacement. I contacted the Detroit Diesel approved shop that overhauled the engine a few years back. They sold off their service part of the business but thought they may have some paper records. I emailed him the info and he was to get back a few days latter. Never heard from him either. I called many different places and finally came across 4 State Trucks. Their service and price was excellent. I ordered a new one based on dimensions and measurements, etc. It arrived and I installed it (after removing the air filter, oil servicing remote handle, upper shroud, etc). I then asked someone else to start it for me. Then I realized it was turning in the wrong direction. SO, I removed it and was able to return it. Then I realized the 8V92 takes a counter-clockwise fan. This is not easy to find. I contacted Morgan at Newell again he he wasnt sure and sent a picture of one that looked close. I traveled in person to a few 18 wheeler stores and finally the 4 State Truck Store customer support recommended www.kit-masters.com. They are not cheap but they are good with their customer service. There are some specific and exact measurements that need to be taken (like 2 versus 2.05 inch pilot hole). I just installed another one last night, it is missing a 7/8 inch spacer/block. It has been an interesting time searching for a cooling fan. While it was removed, I did clean the radiator from the inside. Lesson learned, make sure to use a caliper to check the measurements and maybe even try to get a part number of the existing one (they normally wear off quickly). When you give kit masters the measurements, they generate the correct part number and when you order, they custom make one for you.
We looked at a Newell yesterday at a used RV Dealer and he told us that Newell's are not good coaches to own for full time RV'ers that want to move around and see America because of the high cost of repairing them, especially the air system that runs so many parts of the coach. He told us stories of people that he knows that have paid $30,000 to $60,000 on repairs just so they could trade them in, any input would be appreciated.
