Hey everyone, question for you all. We just had Newell perform our first PM on our coach before taking off for Alaska and I noticed that they spun on a SCA coolant filter LFW4075, I told them I am running OAT final charge coolant, which requires a blank coolant filter. They seem like they have no idea the difference  between OAT vs legacy coolant systems and SCA requirments. Am I just stressing out about nothing here? Out of an abundance of caution and recomendation from the coolant manufacturer Peak Final Charge, I am flushing out the coolant system and replacing the contaminated coolant. Thanks for your inputs guys!

In 13 years and 100k miles of coach use, I have never had to change a fuel filter while on a trip. I had my first experience a couple of days ago. We had to climb Black Mountain into Asheville NC, and I had NO power. I also could not build any boost over about 5 psi. I suspected fuel filter, but I had 20 more miles to go before the campground, and that was plenty of time for my mind to run away to turbo issues, ECM issues, air intake issues, and mostly ruined trip. Oh yeah, think horses not zebras I said.

I had spare filters and ATF so changing the filter was not a problem. Except spinning the locking ring loose was a bear, that a channel lock filter wrench bested.

But that’s just background for the real reason for the post. I had early warning clues that would have saved me the slog up the mountain IF I had only recognized what was happening.

Here were the early warning clues, that obviously make sense in hindsight. One, the coach felt like it was  “missing” occasionally on an entrance ramp. The “miss” would go away as soon as we were up to speed. Since the engine doesn’t have plugs, wires, or distributor, “miss” is just a way to describe how it felt. Also, at the very top of rolling hills, the coach would “miss” one time. Just one very quick stutter. Most of this happened before I changed out a failing wheel bearing a week ago. I had written off the signs as the wheel bearing having a rough spot.

Anyway, if I had recognized these as early warning signs, I would have checked the filter housing and noticed it was full all the way to the top of the clear bowl.

Stay safe out there. And keep spare filters on board!

I just recently purchased an Older Newell Coach. was wondering where you go to get parts for the older Kohler generators as no one seems to be able to tell me. and that includes Kohler or Yanmar?

my Coach is a 1987 and the interior is in really good shape , just the generator, plumbing have been neglected over the years.

just looking for some advice.

thanks

Dennis

Hi everyone, Dan G here.  I'm looking forward to purchasing a Newell, hopefully this year.  Just getting my support network setup :-)

I've been curious about two things:

1) Especially for those of you with fairly new coaches, so you ever have any trouble or get any attitudes from folks in more run-of-the-mill RV parks where a >$1 million coach is pretty rare?  You know, the place you might stop for only one night on a long trip.  Outside of luxury coach resorts, I am wondering if people might see a Newell (or a Liberty, etc) as pretentious.

2) What opportunities and adventures do you feel you have missed out on because your coach was too big or heavy?

Thanks, guys - looking forward to making this my Newell support home!

Considerable TLC has gone into this coach, and I’m a little surprised to find myself parting with it.   But Heidi and I are changing our travel choices for the foreseeable future, and I’m ready to see someone else take over this amazing machine.

The history of 579 is found throughout the Forums, as Chester Stone and I have shared our learning experiences.     Reading Chester’s posts gave me the courage to take on his project for my own.   I’d encourage anyone who is interested to do the same.

Anticipating FAQs, here are the basics:
2001 Newell Coach
VIN 1N9458X8111011579
45’-8”
126,000 miles
Detroit Diesel 60 Engine, 2-stage Jake brake, Allison 6-speed

Upgrades and recent work
-       Front tires are the 365 upgrade (all Michelins)
-       Front and rear caps repainted, original Imron on aluminum sides/roof very good.
-       Front salon floor replaced with French oak
-       House batteries 600 AH BattleBorn lithiums
-       The dinette has been removed to make room for a desk or regular dining table.

I’ll provide “warts and all” description of all system conditions.    Everything on the coach works, and it takes a bit of work to keep it that way...as everyone in this community knows.

Please see attached floor plan and build sheet, and contact me directly for additional photos, information, and endless detail.

I feel that a fair offer would be somewhere near $150,000, but feel free to disabuse.
Looking forward to any and all comments.

Cheers,
Chuck
