I just bought 4 replacement bushings for my slide pin locks and when I went to install them they wouldn't fit .... They went in about 3/8" and that was it.
Well I called Newell and shocked that I got my first "I don't know what to tell you" from Mark, a tech who does slides. He also told me that my coach had Valid slides and didn't know that 645 was a prototype and that my coach was one of the last HWH coaches produced. The reason for bringing this up is that Newell today did not know that HWH offered 2 different slide pin lock receivers. One used the conventional rubber bushings we all know about and the other was what Newell used in later models before the shift to Valid. The second receiver has a 3/4" inset retainer clip that is blue in color and 1/4" thick and it moves freely in a channel cut into the receiver. It is made of nylon and never needs replacement. Well I had already pounded all the rubber ones in with a mallet, using lube. All 4 X $25.00 and $15.00 shipping were not just a waste of money, but I was given my first misinformation from Newell ever !!! How could Mark the slide tech not know that Newell specifically used these receivers that do not require rubber bushings for a long time according to HWH ? So don't waste your $$ like I did until you check for a blue colored, free spinning, internal, retainer ring and if you don't have them you will still need the bushings.

We have a Country Coach owner friend Jim McNeece who did a tremendous amount of leg work to find replacement solenoids for the six pack valves. Jim has had these installed for three months with no problems. I am going to post his email verbatim. I am going to buy 20 or so of these if they are still available. If you want some, let me know and I'll buy extra and bring them to the rally.

Thanks Jim!!!!!

I just heard from a source in Chicago regarding possible replacement plungers.

Through much searching, I found a photo of a Skinner plunger #V5-207. It looks similar to what we have. Also, the HWH valves have a V5983-xxx part number printed on the coil clip. Here is a photo:

While the pic comes from PLC, the source I found is Dymatic (http://www.oemsurplus911.com/skinner/skinner_parts.htm). The salesman quoted $17 each (for a 20 piece buy). He measured one and provided the dimensions. The stem diameter is 0.441 inches and the length is 1.184 inches. Exactly the same diameter as the HWH and only 0.01 inches longer (I don't think the length difference is significant).

I do not have the dimensions or material for the seat. The entire part number is V5-207-N. I would guess the N is the type of seat material. Skinner uses NBR to denote Nitrile, T for PTFE, U for Urethane, V for FKM, and so forth. Perhaps N is Nitrile????

If they accept returns, I'm going to order 20. I will keep you informed.

Jim

Let's all welcome Robert Miller, new owner of coach 390. Bob already exists on the forum as Airplaneguy. After careful interviewing of prospective adopters of Coach 390, otherwise known as Jr. the Wonder Newell, Bob proved himself as a worthy caretaker.

Bob heads out of snowy West Virginia first thing in the morn.

After spending a couple of days with Bob inspecting the rig, I feel comfortable that he will fit right in with the gang.

I would be remiss if I didn't add that there was a fair amount of seller's remorse. Rhonda, the boys, the inlaws, and I had many great adventures in Jr. and the coach was the gateway to meeting all of you.

Saw this Newell s/b on I-540 in Rogers, AR. I guessed it to be a 90 or 91. It had Texas plates.

I picked up 512 at Miami. Marc was nice enough to deliver it there because I wanted Newell to install a rear sway bar. First so all super thanks to Tuga for taking such great care of the coach. Thanks Marc for babysitting it till I had the chance to buy it It was even nicer thn what I remembered. Rhonda is very happy.

In addition the sway bar I asked Newell to put new tires on the rear. Yeah I know, advantage program would have been far cheaper but my local Michelin truck guy employs gorillas and I didn't like the way they handled the rims last time I used them. Plus I was looking at 800 miles of snowy weather and I wanted the best shoes I could have . Other than the normall Newell pace everything is great. I was able to take advantage of being over the pit to get a real good look under and install my toad brake line.

All is well until we hit the interstate in Joplin Hmmm. A low freq vibration that starts at 62 and gets stronger until about 72. This won't do for Mr OCD. So we turn around and head back. Test drive with techs confirms vibration. There is much discussion and theorizing about tires or sway bar being the culprit. Next morning sway bar is removed and test drive is repeated. The vibration is still there. That's kinda good because the sway bar makes a huge difference in the handling. Ok we check runout on the tires and one is out of spec. A deflate, spin 180, and reflate brings it in spec . We are really pushing the weather to get back home so we leave for the second time. Hit the slab in Joplin and no difference Stopped in Springfield and had tires spin balanced. No difference. Those of you who know my legendary patience are crying laughing right now. Stopped and pumped universal joints full of grease and it seemed to get a little better. I could feel a little slop in one of them just a tiny bit maybe a couple of thou. Stopped in St. Louis at Inland truck parts. A drive train specialist. Cept I picked the only shop that did not have a service bay. Oh yeah it's now sleeting and snowing at 25 degrees. They did loan me some specialized tools to get the drive shaft out. Three hours in the snow under the coach later I have it out. One bad diff, runout out of spec and corrected, and a spin balance gets me ready for the reinstall. 30 minutes tops! It's now fixed. Woo hoo! My apologies to the whole crew at Newell for putting them through the paces on the problem solving effort. They were real troopers. The winners prize goes to Pete who correctly Indentified it as drivetrain. So if you have a low frequency rumble / vibration at highway speeds it may be worth looking at the driveshaft especially if the frequency is 9.3 hz at 65 mph. Not that I used some high powered vibration phone app to find the root cause.

All the vibrating and driving has me reall tuned into the difference in road feel between 512 and 390. My theory is the two coaches have different resonance frequencies because of the difference in wheelbase and slides. Although the drive shaft fix cured the constant vibration , now that I am tuned to that frequency I. Oit e road imperfections cause the same resonance. It is a muc different resonance than 390

Suzy & I have developed a conflict with the NASCAR Talladega race. We have two tickets to three days of racing and a campsite in the Family campground. The campground opens on Tuesday April 29th. Racing is May 2nd, 3rd & 4th. Our seat tickets are just three rows from the top of OV Tower--you can see the whole track. Package includes the camping spot for 6 days, 2 tickets for Fridays, Sat & Sunday. We will sell them for 1/2 price. That would be $215.00 If interested email me.

When activating the start switch on the generator it immediately blows the 'start fuse', it's the 15 amp slow blow. Engine never even turns over.

It's a 12kw Kohler w/the 4 cy Perkins, if anyone has a wiring diagram - or has had a similar issue that will get me started the correct direction.

I guess Flying J/Pilot has redone their RV program. The old RV Preferred customer program has been or is being dropped. It has been replaced with a "swipe & save" card that is issued through the Good Sam Club. Has any one used the new card? Do we still have "pump start" so you don't have to go to the cashier prior to fueling?
