The following is paraphrased from that article.

Karl Blade indicates that Newell Coach Corp. experienced an increase in sale in August.

”We hope it continues,” Blade said. ”But we are not going to increase production until we see some solid evidence that the market is improving. We endured a market that plateaued on us after we got out of the depths of the Great Recession and we are now back on a regular production schedule.”

Newell will likely build 24 motorcoaches this year. 16 -18 will be special orders placed by customers and the remainder will be built for those who don’t want to wait six months which it takes to design and build a personally customized Newell.

Karl pointed out that the new coaches have a number of upgrades, including new styling front and back, as well as a lot more chrome trim.

Earlier this year Newell incorporated a new centralized control system that can be controlled with an iPad.

The luxury coach market changed over the 10 years. ”The use pattern has gravitated toward destination luxury resorts and less toward clubs and rallies that are sponsored by the manufacturers,” Blade said.

  Grapevine I5 - Pothole Situation

Hi we are traveling to the Santa Barbara area and heard that the potholes on the Grapevine can swallow small cars whole. Has anyone been through there recently? If we should avoid it what route would you recommend? We are starting from Red Bluff, Ca and so if we should take a different route please let us know.

I dont know if any in our group have ever heard of Angel Bus or not. I had the priviledge of transporting a Cancer patient in my '78 Newell a few years ago. It was a rewarding experience for me. Basically motorcoach owners volunteer to transport non emergency patients who are unable or cannot afford to fly. Long distance trips are done in segments with each driver taking the patient and their attendant whatever distance he can. Then the patient is transferred to another coach for the next "leg" of the journey. My segment was to transport from Bryan , Ohio to the patients home in Western Illinois. By the time we arrived (11:00 pm) I was tired but overwhelmed by the out pouring of love and gratitude her family showed to me and my (nurse) Mother-in-law who rode along.
Her family sent me a card a few months later informing me that she had succumbed to the cancer and expressing their gratitude that she got to spend her last days at home.

hi,

yesterday while forest and cindy were staying with us, i got the 02 all ready for a short drive so forest could try driving a 45'r. i unhooked, checked the tires, took the mirror covers off, darlene, cindy, our daughter heather and dog missy were all loaded up and forest was in the driver seat engine running ready to go. i went outside to guide to make sure he didnt take out the rose bush on the way out and i noticed the step wouldnt retract.

brand new steps (but they got bent by a shop and are getting replaced again).

everyone was itchy to get going and darlene even suggested that i fix it and we could go the next day for a drive. well, that got my newell dander up.....ha

i got underneath, plugged and unplugged the steps, i tried it over and over again and even kicked the steps...i took the cover off the bode air door mechanism to look for the magnetic sensor to tell if the door is closed (i never did find it by the way, does anyone know where it is?) to no avail.

i called steve bare for advice and he said...sometimes they need lubed and there is enough tension that they wont retract. i firmly told him that wasnt the case....

well, as always, steve was right...i kicked the steps as the door was closing and in they went. i lubed them up, and off we went.

two lessons learned.

1. steve is always right
2. lube your steps often

  Replaced my ZipDee Fabric

Too many years and most of them outside with awnings out. My ZipDees were just worn out. I had a small rip where the one went over the edge on the rear slide. The others were just getting thin and the seams were beginning to part.

I live in one of the boat building areas and we are fortunate to have a canvas company with some very skilled worked, who can be talked into a little moonlighting.

So here are the pictures. The material is Sumbrella in Linen - C/N 6083-0000. My total cost was under $600 for all three. If you DIY, just be very careful. Lots of time on the roof, on ladders, and the springs have a lot of stored energy. That's the last big project I wanted done before I would be ready to migrate south. Later Gurus....

  DishTV Learning Remote

I've had Dishtv for years & was always annoyed I could not control my audio system from the Dishtv remote. I've looked at the Logitech piece & didn't like it. Anyway a friend just up graded his dish box & a learning remote is included. The installer set it up for his audio system.

I borrowed his remote & it worked on my older vip622 DVR.

1934: Wally Byam begins using the name "Airstream" for his travel trailers, closes operations due to WWII and goes to work in the aircraft industry
1946: Byam hired by Curtis Wright Industries to design the "Curtis Wright Clipper" travel trailer.
1948: Byam leaves Curtis Wright Industries and reopens Airstream
1949: Pat Patterson and 2 other investors purchase the rights to "Curtis Wright Clipper" and form the Silver Streak Trailer Company
1957: Patterson founds Streamline Trailer Co.
1964-1967: Streamline Trailer Co, of El Monte, California, manufactures aluminum motorhomes under the name Streamline Travel Car Lodge and later Streamline Travel Homes. These were 25' and 30' designated length (excluding bumpers), mostly 30' and most used Ford gasoline engines. They built 84 or 85 motorhomes between 1964 and 1967.

L.K. Newell purchased a 19666 Streamline Travel Home with an aluminum body on a one-ton Ford front engine gasoline powered chassis and in less than 2 weeks, returned to the factory to have corrections made. He shared his suggestions for product improvements with Streamline's owner who responded "If you are so damned smart, why don't you buy the motorhome operation from me?"

Within hours of that comment, Mr. Newell bought Streamline Travel Homes and moved the motrohome operation to Miami, OK (pronounced MY-am-uh). The first few coaches built in Miami carried the Streamline Travel Home name.

In 1967 he started using the Newell name on the motorhomes.
