My coach was originally built with a Weiser electonic remote deadbolt--keyless entry. It didn't work when I purchased my coach. I wanted to get it working. Weiser locks had been sold to Kwikset since the unit was manufactured. They said the circuit board was bad & a new one was not available. Kwikset no longer manufactures a deadbolt with a remote, they only make one with a touchpad. I found a company, Morning Industries, that manufactured an electronic deadbolt with two remotes--Model #RF-01sn. Home Depot could get one as a special order for $143. I found them on the internet from $85 to $200. I purchased the lock from a company I could return it to if it was not "Newell quality". Once I got the new lock I realized I needed an extension kit as the door was wider than 1 7/8" so the mounting plate screws were too short. I called the company in SoCal who answered & spoke English. For $15 they sent me the extension kit. It arrived in four days. Replacing the old lock with the new one was a breeze. It was R & R. No new holes, nothing to change. The lock runs on four AA batteries so no wires to run. The only thing I had to do was add a flat washer & star lock washer as the mounting screws were too long when I put in the extension kit. From the outside you just see a normal deadbolt & on the inside is the metal electronic box that is smaller & nicer than the original Weiser box. There is an opening handle on the inside that lock or unlocks the lock without using the remote. It works without involving the electronics.
For anyone who would like an electronic deadbolt that operates with a remote this lock will work as long as your door is not thicker than 2 1/4". There are no wires to run or holes to drill so replacing a non electronic deadbolt with this unit is simple. I read a thread where some folks were worried of being locked out, but this lock always works with the keys from the outside or handle on the inside even if the batteries are removed or dead.
I replace the batteries at the start of the season & am able to use the lock all year without replacing the four AA batteries. I have now owned and used this system for a year and a half without a single problem. Last time I checked Wal*Mart.Com had even lowered the price to less than I paid. The lock also comes in a variety of finishes.
Turned on our water pump last night in our newly acquired d Newell and was rewarded with a shower in the basement plumbing area. See attached photo for the culprit (ok I don't know how to add an attachment. Anyway it is a fixture that a long canister filter screws into). The top of this filter assembly is cracked. It looks like a straightforward plumbing swap out. Can you guys tell me if that is so and can I get this at a Menards or do I need to get it online? What is this dude called anyway?
For any one who collects part numbers like I do I replaced the entire wiper blade on my coach. It had Bosch wiper blades on it(not sure if original), but replaced with Anco as they are readily available. The wiper blade I used was a 31-24. They are available at Wal*Mart for under $5. In the future I can replace the refills with Anco part #11-24.
where is matt when ya need him?
i had a chip in my drivers side windshield so got it replaced today. they said it was a common windshield. the cost of the window itself was $341.
i dont know how much the installation was. the window center rubber piece that seals the window in had shrunk so they are going to order a new one that goes all the way around.
not a fun time to be changing windshields. it was in direct sun and it was 112 degrees today.

I hated the countertop coffee maker that I used to have. I always spilled water on the counter when trying to fill the blasted thing. Also, the coffee it made was marginal at best.
Here is my new Brewmaster plumbed-in coffee maker. The same one they are putting in new coaches. It has a water line running to the filtered water under the sink. No more spilled water.
Newell made the box and installed it. The only holes were to run power (inverted circuit) and water.
It only pulls power when it is actually brewing. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for quite a while.
Cheers,
bill

We have two hookups at our place just south of the golf course in Alamogordo, NM and enjoy visitors.
If you plan to stop just contact me and I will direct you in. We travel a lot so it is hit or miss if we will be there or not.

I notice on the Wanderlodge Forum that John Carrillo has posted that he will be at the FMCA Convention in Indianapolis, IN 8/25-8/30. He is a former employee of Aqua-Hot Heating Systems where he spent over 9 years as a Tech Advisor/Service Tech and he is certified and trained in both AquaHot and HydraHot systems with 13 years of experience. If you are going to the convention and need your system worked on you can contact him:
[email protected] or by calling (970)518-3085 or by snail mail at John Carrillo Hydronic Heating Specialist, 9143 Harlequin Cir., Frederick, CO 80504.
Does Dave Holmes in Indiana not have the compressor squirrel cage fan motors anymore? That would be a big problem.
A couple years ago a local electric motor rebuilder looked at one and said he could maybe rebuild it but it wouldn't be cheap, he said the problem was with the sealed bearings. You might have some luck finding a local shop to rebuild.
I think at some point we all will have to convert to roof airs, not looking forward to that.
My local a/c guy repaired mine once and said he might be able to find a compressor and condenser that would work. You just need to find someone willing to work on these units. Once he saw that the compressor unit could be pulled out he was willing to look at it.
Ok first thread ever as a Newell owner. Ok soon to be as I am picking up an 84 on Friday. The seller called me today and said that two of the three basement units fired up but that one would not and that this had never happened before. The rig has largely been idle with only two trips in four years. He said he occasionally starts it and runs the units and this is the first time this has happened. I know nothing about these as I am brand new to this but the owner does not know a great deal either. Any ideas or best case worst case along with cost potentially from experience. The owner said he wanted to try and make this right by potentially correcting the price. So i Told him I would post here and see if any of the Newell family could make suggestions to possible causes and the potential cost so he and I had someone's experience to guide us. Thanks for your help.
Hi, This is my first post and want to thank Michael for telling me about this site.
Currently, we are on a long summer journey to the west coast to see old Newell friends and take a cruise to Alaska for our 50th wedding anniversary out of Seattle.
We left Albuquerque, NM on June 26 and have visited old friends and relatives along the way and are now in Sacramento, CA. Some of the Newell owners have now settled down and gotten out of RVing but some are still enjoying our fun lifestyle.
Our visits have been to Frank and Kay Niesner in Royal City, Washington, Marlen and Audrey Knutson in Bow. Washington, Tom and Mary Cowgill in Albany, OR, and now with Dan and Barbara Calvey here in Sacramento.
The trail leads back to Albuquerque from here as I have a Doctor's appointment and we need to get back home to Alamogordo, NM to get ready to head out to Indio for the winter.
