Forum: Howdy and Welcome to Newell Gurus
- Replies (2)

Howdy all!  Longtime lurker, newly registered first-time poster here.  I’ve been a full time RVer since 2020 and, like many, have found the quality and construction of new RVs lacking.  I’ve owned class C, B, 5-ers and bumper pulls.  None ever felt like “my last” RV… thin walls, minimal construction and generally cheap.

I’m at the beginning of my search for a classic Newell coach.  I’m here to learn and absorb everything I can.  Looking forward to the journey!

Hello,
I'm hoping to be Newell owner in the near future. In search of a P2000i era coach preferably with a C15,ZF,Mid Entry,Murphy bed,Multiplex controls. Hoping to learn as much as possible to make educated judgements as we search to find our new to us coach. Our current coach is a NRC conversion on a Freightliner Argosy truck chassis. It was built on a new truck in 2005 and currently has just over 50k miles on it, just barely broken in. It has served us well but we are hoping to upgrade to something with better craftsmanship but can still pull our 28' stacker (21k GVW).

Thanks,
Karl

Forum: Air Operated Systems and Leaks
- Replies (26)

Hello all! I have air leaks that, so far, I haven't been able to find. I watched the videos on Newell's air systems and found them very helpful in understanding how these systems are designed. I bought a leak detector, a few DOT compression fittings, and with bubble soap and lights, started checking all the connections mapping my system as I went.

In all the bays, left side and right, I didn't find any leaks. The front and rear 6-packs seemed fine. Inside, I found a small leak in a 1/4" push-in fitting in the break system under the dash. I replaced it with a compression fitting. I found a leak in the driver's chair, but the previous owner had a cut off valve installed. I closed it and the leak stopped. I still have the dash gauges to check as soon as I can figure out how to get to them. All the toilet connections are good. I have 3 air doors that I haven't got to to check.

I have not been able to get under the coach due to another issue with HWH that only allows the coach to get to travel height.

The results so far: the 120v pump comes on every 4.5 minutes. This seems like a sizable leak to me. Usually, it's been holding for about 45 minutes.

I turned off the 120v and turned on the 12v (which I never turn on). Sure enough, about 45lbs, the pump comes on, however, it's extremely noisy and the gauge doesn't change. I'm thinking the pump is gone. It's a little difficult to get to behind the Aqua Hot overflow tank.

My main question at this point is: Could a defective 12v pump cause the leak? Does anyone know a replacement model? What should I check next?

I guess this is a pre-sighting!  Anyone going to be in the infield for the 500?  It will be our first time (knock on wood - we tried but didn't make it last year).  We will be in the Geico Red somewhere around spot 337 starting Wednesday afternoon (going with a group including one other Newell, not sure of exact spot).  Please stop by for a beverage or a bite if you are in the area and feel free to bring an instrument if you play (my wife is a professional cellist focusing on blues/jazz/rock).

Another air leak under the front of the coach. Doesn't look like the fitting from under the dash that was recently repaired.

Is there a video on how to fix? Looks like I can unscrew, cut off a portion of the line and re-insert?

Thanks

Larry

What if a person wanted to sell their 1990’s coach? Main question being what is a good avenue to sell such for a broader audience? Just thinking here…
