While having an awesome time climbing around between the drive and tag wheels to do some leak checking above the transmission for an air leak, I noticed a couple of oddities on the drag link bar. On my coach, there is no zerk fittings on the ball joints at either end and unfortunately both boots have cracked and failed over time. My plan, such as it is, is to purchase some aftermarket boots and IF the ball joints are still good, to just replace the boots. If the ball joint is not good, then there seems to be a couple of options. I could try and have new ball joints pressed in or it is a new drag link bar from Newell ( a little pricey).
Has anyone else run into this? Are the ball joints in the drag link replaceable? Seems like they should be, just like on my old '54 Ford F100...Okay, that may be a stretch. Has anyone added zerk fittings to the ball joints?
Here is a couple of photos showing the link bar and the boots.
Morning everyone!
Quick question for everyone before I dig deeper and remove the step motor. Couple months ago I noticed our steps were becoming intermittent and not retracting when pulling the rig out, now they seem to be permitally out. I have removed the door access panel and engaged and cleaned all three switches independently and together without and different result. Under the stairs I have checked the ground connection and unplugged and reattached the main stair plug which illuminates the amber stair light under the stairs for a couple of minutes however the stairs stay extended. Checked the stair fuse and it's good. Everything indicates that the stair motor or maybe the control board has failed, but I noticed the entry door light stays illuminated even with the door closed in the auto position. This tells me that maybe a door switch has failed and not the stair motor itself.
Figured to ask the group here before going a "step" further and removing the motor to test its functionality. Hopefully Newell has and is willing to email/fax a wiring diagram for the coach. The one thing I miss about my old Country Coach is that every wire was numbered at every junction and the user manuals had all the wiring diagrams and wire numbers for easy troubleshooting.
Have a great day!

Noticed the carpet between the lower two steps coming into the coach is wet. Checked both bays on either side and they were dry on walls nearest to step area as well as floor.. There is a black box on the forward wall in bay R4 with what appear to be flex heater hoses coming out of it. Next step is to tear into the box and see what is going on. Oddity is I cannot find any wet area on the walls of the step. Thoughts? Pictures when I can get to the Coach.
Thanks
Good Morning Forum,
As a Newbie, I think I have an easy question, but time will tell.
I have a 2008 coach, unit 1247, and I am planning to clean the AC inlet filters as I am not sure when it was done last. Per Newell, I just remove the cover (mirrored section and possibly the outer leather covered part as well) by just popping the clips. Here is where my confusion comes to play....not to mention my significant fear of causing any damage to either the outer ring or the mirrored section. I have no idea what type of clips are used and if there are any "pry" appropriate areas to use to if these are automotive type clips such as for door panels, etc.
I have attached a photo of AC 1 & 2 covers for reference. Any one who has done this in the past and has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Jerry
Curiosity got the best of me today, I have been aware of this switch for
a long time. I would really like to understand it, and how it relates to the inverter. This switch is located behind a false wall in a closet directly above the incoming street power. (Hint #1)
I am "assuming" that if no 120 volt street or generator power is available, this relay having no coil current, allows both 120 volt circuits to energize the two inverter circuits in the coach?
Tried to start coach and slow turn over then nothing. Tried to merge but no luck . Hooked up to 20 amp power and shows to be charging with merge switch on. I hear the merge solenoid click when switched on. Will generator charge chassis batteries faster? Trying to get coach into heated storage for coming cold weather.
Thanks JC
Leo had just finished removing the right tag wheel when the right tag bag popped. Happy it decided to let go on the day we were replacing them.
Then after getting them both replaced and the KOR HCV's installed we aired up and found the left tab bag has a leak.
FinditParts.nohelp expected me to wait 3 days for them to figure out what they wanted to do with their defective bag. Leo call a supplier 30 minuets later he was replacing the defective bag.
So with the HCV's and bags all hooked up I was stumped why the left front corner was more than an inch low. We noticed the left front bag was shorter than the right. then i spy the issue, a suprise, not a suprise. The left front lower shock mount was broken just like the right one we repaired last spring.
It is a very weak design that I hope is NOT a Newell design. Once it was welded and reinstalled the front was level side to side. Sorry no pics of that.
Then it was on to the generator exhaust that I hooked on a cattle guard. 2 new mufflers, 10' of 2" exhaust tube and 6 clamps got that sorted.
Finally it's been a year since this guy joined the team. (see photo)
Cheers and happy travels.
I have finally found a complete 8.3 275 HP Engine that runs but I will rebuild. Can anyone shed any light on swapping this into a 70s Era Newell. Which trans, etc. What to watch out for or forseeable problems.
I know no one is probably messing with this sort of thing any more but if the information is out there I would sure like to hear or see it. Even a picture of one that was done years ago.
Thank You
Al
Hi All, my seat is leaking at the Fluid Automation Systems Valve. I called Newell but no joy. Please let me know if anyone has a source for this.
Thanks, Tim
I am helping the gentleman in France with his 1991 Newell. This was purchased and imported by Puegot’s racing team and was used for many years by them.
So he is having issues with the generator, it will not start. I have gone through some troubleshooting with him, but we are trying to identify the engine. It has a tag that says Universal Oshkosh, Wi on it with some ID numbers.
I will attach the photos that he has provided me so far and maybe someone else has this generator.
Thanks for any help.
He is 4 hours away from the bus and had left before I had asked him to try to see if he could find any more numbers on the engine.
