I have a smalll awning about 3 feet wide over my entry door. I have a front entry. Due to rain I had it out in an attempt to cover the entrance during the rain. After returning and the temperature suppose to get below freezing, I decided I would retract the awning.. as a warning to fellow gurus don’t stand on the down hill side of the awning. It results in a rather chilling, but refreshing unexpected shower.

We stopped in Rodeo New Mexico , population 101. What a wonderful surprise. I wish we had a few days to spend here. All spaces are  200 ft pull thrus, 50 amp full hook ups.  Pretty level, with picnic benches and patios. Usable wifi, laundry, cafe , rally facilities ,and wonderful hosts. If you are a birder ,star gazer or hiker, or off roader, this is the place. 

It is rated as the 2nd darkest place in america, and I believe it. You can't see your feet without a flashlight at night. Many campers here have brought their telescopes with them.

Our "new" Newell will not start using the ignition switch on the dashboard.  It starts with no problem with the starting switch on the rear of the bus.  We have checked the neutral safety switch, however this has not solved the problem.  We are thinking it may be the override switch or??  Any clues out there?

We are in Van Horn Texas tonight, and as often happens, a fellow RVer  came over I assumed to take a look at the coach. Nope, he wanted to know if I know Clarke Hockwald ! Sad

Seems that he is a blog follower of Clarke and TLE and our coaches are quite similar. My ego is crushed. Clarke, Mr. Steve Killian sends his regards .

Gurus,

My 120V compressor is located in the bay below passenger seat.  It is a "standard" setup for this vintage coach.  There is a little solenoid that releases air pressure to the pump when the pump cycles off.  The air line then goes to a "spitter" to remove the water and then to a  T that feeds the wet tank and also gets routed to the pressure switch.  

Even though I drain the spitter and the tank on a regular basis, water can get into the pressure relief solenoid body. When it gets cold, the water freezes and chaos ensues.  I have had the solenoid fail badly which resulted in huge air leak.  Last week during cold weather, it froze up but did not fail.

Remember this solenoid is the first thing that the airline gets to after the pump.  

I have come up with two solutions...and would like to hear your thinking.

1)  Put a dryer / spitter right after the pump.  The idea is to get rid of water before it gets to the solenoid.

2)  Add an electric heater similar to the one in the AH bay to keep the temperature of the bay above freezing.

Has anyone made modifications to their air system to keep the ice out?

Hello gurus, Bryan here with coach #599. I need new house batteries. I have heard talk about AGM, lithium, or the standard flooded batteries. Your advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated as to the differences between the different styles.

Good morning.  This is my first post on here.  My father who passed left me his 1991.  He loved it and I hope to make some new memories with my family.  Anyway, when I arrived to my shop this morning where the bus is plugged in the horn was honking as if it was an alarm.  I had no clue what to do, so I cut some wires going to the horn just so i could hear myself think, splicing back together is no big deal.  The horn was still "clicking" and I was able to locate a relay in the fuel tank compartment and unplugged that and the clicking stopped.  Is this an underlying issue of something else or just a relay gone bad??  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

hi all,

i had my coach up at our cabin for two weeks to use while we are remodeling the cabin.  night time temps in the 15-25 degrees and daytime temps in the 32 to 45 degrees.  

i was plugged into 20amp 120v outlet.  

the coach was there for 14 days and aquahot worked like a champ.  i brought the coach home today and calculated fuel usage just for the aquahot.  it used about 4.2 gallons of diesel a day.  no problem with the 20amp keeping everything going.  

coach started right up no problem in 40 degrees.  

i didnt put the slides out up at the cabin as the driveway was so sloped i couldnt get it level enough.

a few pictures of the newell at the cabin and then tonite as i put her to bed in the shop after getting home.  where she is nice and warm now and not freezing....ha

Hello. We have stopped for the night in Abilene Tx , We are heading west, dropping down to I 10 for the rest of the trip to Riverside Ca. After registering at the rv park, we found a  small coolant puddle from the front area of the coach on the asphalt where we had been parked. Checked the genny coolant and it is fine, We have not used the gen set for a week or so. Checked he power steering in case i was really seeing p/s fluid. It was full.

I have been using coolant at the rate of approx 1 gal per 1000 miles since we bought the coach 18  months ago. I chalked it up to lack of an overflow can on the radiator, but I might have found the culprit. This drip would be more than one gallon per thousand miles

I see coolant dripping ever so slowly from the bottom steel plate that looks like it is the bottom for the gen set between the steer tires. I am assuming that there is a leak from the hoses that supply driver - passenger heat. I have looked for shut off valves from the engine to the heater. Does anyone know where they are on a 1984?  I could just trudge on keeping an eye on the temps and frequently check the radiator sight glass, but that seems risky?
