Took our 1982 Newell over to All Aboard America in Mesa, AZ Thursday (January 12th) to have the drive train inspected and serviced.  Leo was our mechanic......Leo and Tom (our Tom) have become good friends over the years, and Leo really knows Detroit Diesel 2 strokes.  Had the oil changed, oil filter changed, fuel filters changed (I changed the tranny filter about 8,000 miles ago), replaced 23 gallons of coolant, inspected the brakes, steering gear, u joints, air bags, differential, lubed everything.  After that Leo got to work on figuring out why my 'Jake' brake stopped working.  He quickly found a wire had become disconnected and re-attached it, but wanted to keep the coach overnight to be sure that was the entire problem.  Very happy with the service, and being able to be right there while he did the work.  I learned a lot!

Last summer I acquired what appears to be a complete set of Detroit Diesel 8V71 engine wraps for the cost of shipping.  Initially I was under the impression these were for a 6V92 engine like mine so I paid the shipping.  Since an V8 is longer than a V6 most of them will not fit. I believe they will also fit a 8V92. Attached are pictures.  If you are interested you may also have them for the cost of shipping. The shipping cost from zip code 77379 to 96150 was approximately $85 .

What is everyone finding as a difference between the Cat 625 and the Detroit 505 for fuel mileage?

I currently have a 2007 American Coach Eagle with a Cummins 500 and get about 5.5 running 70 MPH pulling about #5500
I have friends with newer coaches that had the Cummins 600 and they are getting in the mid to high 6's running same speed and towing slightly less.

Just curious what the big Cats and the Detroits are getting. I am not sure when Newell switched or if the Cat was an option. But I am looking at a 2006 with a series 60 and an 06 with the C-15.

My power steering has just failed completely. i have read on the forum that the C15 is prone to sheering of the power steering pump shaft, has anyone had experience of this? is it the pump side that fails or the gear that drives the pump, is it a big job to sort out!?
thanks

not sure if this is a major issue but it's gotten cold and the door will open as it should be when closing it, it's like it doesn't have enough pressure to complete the closing. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Air pressure looks good and the other systems work fine.

Also out of sheer curiosity, I am looking for a couple of Newells.

My dad's coach is #730.

I just dropped it off in Miami this past Monday.

His old coach is #630. Does anyone know where that one wound up?

His first Newell, he bought used, I don't know what number it was but there is no mistaking it if any of you have ever seen it. It was painted up like and American Flag. White with red and blue swooping stripes with stars in them.

Just wondering if any one has ever seen them and what may have happened to them.
