Question two about ownership cost

It has occurred to me that my experience may not be the norm, and that my views on Newell ownership may not represent the norm. Engineer's motto "In God we trust, everybody else bring data". My data may be quite different from the norm, and I may be proffering advice to others that is not accurate. Afterall, I tend to discourage more than I encourage. 

To that end, I am going to run a couple of very simple polls. I would like for poll participants to have at least one year of ownership under their belt before contributing. 



I don't want to color the responses with my answers just yet.

We have been on the hunt for a “classic coach” in the 2004-2008 time. Ran across a really sharp 2000 Newell.  They have not really been on our radar going to look at it later this week any help on what to consider that could be more Newell specific issues that only Newell owners know about.  Is 2000 a good year?  What about electronics any issues there?  Radiator issues? Suspension?  We would really appreciate any feedback the gurus can lend we really like it but just don’t know the brand and that makes us nervous… FYI we have had several rigs Monaco’s and Country Coach and after the Entegra decided we needed to go back to a better era in build quality… Thanks in advance for your knowledge…

When I was visiting the coach on Saturday an electrician was there as he was wiring up individual meters for each stall at the storage facility.  Power was off to both of my stalls and before I left we had power back on 458, but not on 653.  I asked him when he'd be done and he said in about an hour.  Didn't think much about it until I showed up this morning to not just no shore power, but no power at all inside the coach.  Got the shore power turned back on and still no power to the coach and I'm getting a "Dead Batt Charge" on my Magnum screen and zero volts at the house batteries when checking with volt meter.

I get Battleborn on the horn and their initial advice was to pull the coach outside (I did still have chassis batteries) and then hook up the house batteries to my car via jumper cables.  I mentioned to them that I do have the ability to merge house/chassis batteries on the coach and he said I might want to try that first.  Trying to cover all of my bases I called Johnson Net for a little more phone support and Bill confirmed that a merge would be the first place to start.

Merged the batteries for roughly 5 minutes before they woke up and went back into bulk charge mode.  From everything I can gather the batteries did everything they were supposed to do by shutting down once the threshold was hit on the low voltage cutoff and that is why the showed zero.  Also good to know that when that happens a quick merge can get things back to life.  

Now I need to give some thought and time as to why I have enough draw when parked to take me down to that LVCO mark in roughly 48 hours.  I mean, it could have been longer than that as I didn't quiz the electrician as to when he cut off power to that stall, I just assumed it was Saturday.  I have nothing else running on purpose like my Aquahot as it hasn't got cold enough yet to fire that up so I'm a bit stumped.  All in all it's a good day though when things do what they are supposed to do and it reinforces my love of lithium.

Morning Gurus,

Decided that hanging out in Phoenix waiting on Dr's appointments was not a great use of my time and Newell, so I headed out yesterday to Monument Valley KOA Journey to try my luck and see if it was a good time to visit. The trip from Phoenix took about 6 hours and the roads were clear and only light traffic. We pulled into the KOA and found only 4 other visitors..... YES, Score, Happy Dance. 

The park in simple and clean with not many extras but the views are excellent. Hopefully the various parts of the park will also be so empty. Last night the temperatures went down into the 20's so if you come make sure you can deal with the cold. A heated water hose is important. The night sky was clear and had some excellent star viewing.

Not wanting to re-invent the wheel, has anyone on this forum converted their air wipers to electric?

My goal is to install a smart steering wheel like modern cars. Move control for the wipers/washers, cruise, headlights, radio, etc. to the steering wheel and off the dash.

I found a website, http://www.busrvparts.com/Bus-Elect_Wipers.htm, that lets me know that it can be done for a price. They don't have one specifically for a classic Newell, but there is definitely one that can be modified.
