Just finished up a camera/monitor install on the coach this weekend and thought I would share the process with everyone.
It had been my intent to do this shortly after we bought the coach because the picture quality  was really bad. But you all know how it goes, other things pop up and this became less important. Recently it percolated back to the top of the list as my monitor lost video signal.
I had power at the monitor and a good connection of the cable at the monitor and camera. Upon further investigation I discovered that whoever installed the last system actually ran the cable (from the camera to the monitor) down inside the rear cap and underneath the full length of the coach (I swear) and then up through the floor to the monitor. I have been under my coach a couple times and never noticed it before. It looks like one of the plastic wire ties that was used to secure the cable finally failed, or something snagged it. Either way, it was toast and gave me a good excuse to install a new system.

I have a friend who works for a German company that makes cameras and monitors and he hooked me up with some new high tech equipment.

10" Full digital touch screen display. Resolution is 1280 x720 (to put that into perspective. my old display resolution was 320 x 234).
1.2 MP Digital Ethernet Camera

Started off by taking the center console apart to get the old monitor out. I was a little concerned that the 10" monitor was going to be too big. No where on the dash or hanging overhead really made sense. Anywhere on the dash would have blocked too much direct vision and if I hung from the bottom of the overhead cabinets, I would have had the power and camera cables hanging down as well. Finally decided to install it in same place as the current monitor. The challenge was how to mount it since there is no way a 10" display is going to fit in the same hole the 7" was sitting in. Decided to use a dual ball-joint RAM mount (see pic) and mounted it inside the hole. This allowed me to adjust the monitor position so that there was no interference with the center console lid or switches.

I also decided to run the cable the proper way this time. This required removing the valences and the corner covers to access the harness runs. Had to remove the access panels in the closets and cabinets as well. A little tight every now and then but not overly complicated. This was a first for me and it was a great learning experience.

Mounting the camera was pretty straight forward. A few minor tweaks and all was done. The end result is awesome. I am posting a bunch of pictures and tried to get some with the picture shown in the monitor.

Forum: Air Operated Systems and Leaks

Noticed that our midship pocket door (separates kitchen from bathroom room area) has developed a hiss and air leak only when open, closed the air leak stops. Pretty new to Newells, so learning! Guessing it's the air cylinder is leaking on the open side, so my question is 1, to gain access to the mechanism you remove the mirror above the door to get to the screws but how do you get to the actuator? It looks like it's in the toilet room above the medicine cabinet above the toilet but I see no visible way to disassemble....help? And question 2, source for the parts thanks!!!!!!

Forum: Generators
- Replies (40)

So this is probably covered in a thread somewhere in here but I am not sure what to even look for.
Up to now, I have had zero issues with my generator (Kohler 12.5K). It has always started right off and has run smooth.
This was not the case today. I noticed right off the bat that it was very sluggish when I tried to start it. It finally took hold and started then shut off. I tried again and the same thing happened. Strange.
I decided to start the engine and then tried the generator again. This time it started up fine and ran smooth. I shut the engine down and it  right on running (smoothly). I let it run for awhile and then shut it down. I gave it a few minutes then tried to start it again. Same thing as before (started then shut down). So I started the engine again and then the genny. It started right up and kept running after I shut the engine off. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there has, had or knows someone who owns an RV Lot within a Resort somewhere. We are considering purchasing a few in notable resorts across the US, but have no experience in this sector of real estate (we have plenty of experience with commercial and residential real estate). Some of my questions involve the following:

Is it worth it?
Does it make traveling more convenient if you own lots at least in "4 corners" of the US?
Does renting the lot (when not owner occupied, of course) help bring a balance to the monetary investment calculation?
Where would you love to rent a lot?
What would you consider to be "the pros" to this strategy?
What would you consider to be "the cons" to this strategy?
If you are an owner, what, if any, about the ownership do you regret?
If you are an owner, what would you change about your ownership?

Any other thoughts would be much appreciated, as we continue to go forward on this new journey!

Stumbled across this campground yesterday.  Nice sized back -in spots, nicely angled for large rigs.  Landscaped lots each w/ 50 amp and a covered shelter.  Lots are well spaced from each other.

Roads and pads asphalt and cement.
$24

Downside is you share a hydrant with your neighbor and will need 70 feet or more of hose for some sites.

I figure I have dragged the old Subie about 100K miles behind our coaches. The front bumper was showing the effects, plus the usual dings and impacts a 14 year old car will have.

I have been thinking for couple of years about how to spiff that up a bit without going into the prep work needed to make new paint look decent. New glossy paint over beat up surfaces will look worse than doing nothing. So I got this idea of using bed liner tinted the original color of the bumper. That redneck instinct kicked in and this week I painted the bumpers and rocker panels with tinted bed liner.

I did some experiments first using the Shuchtz gun that is normally used, but that gave a heavy texture. Plus the recommendations of the stuff I used, Dominator, had you spraying from 2 ft away. That gave a grainy feel to the finish, perhaps good for keeping your firewood from sliding around, but I was afraid you could never get the bugs off that finish.

I finally settled on using an HVLP gun with a 2.0 mm nozzle normally used to spray heavy primer. I cut the glop about 20% just to get it to flow and wet out a little better. Holding the gun about 8 inches from the surface and spraying a good wet coat gave me a moderate texture and sheen.

Forum: Help, I need help ASAP
- Replies (16)

On Monday March first I became the owner of coach 132, which was built in 1987. I picked it up in Kansas and was heading to Kentucky. I spent the night at a campground in Sullivan, MO and a fellow camper was looking at the coach and noticed I had a wheel seal leak on the tag axle. He suggested a nearby truck repair shop. I left it with them to do the work and asked them to check out a couple of other needed repairs. This was on March 2nd. Here it is the 19th and they still haven't fixed the wheel seal. Now they claim the coach won't start and I don't know when they will get around to looking at it.

I have two questions.

First, does anyone know of a reputable shop that will work on these older buses?

Second, are there any start issues that I should look at first? The prior owner said he never had any start issues. I am going to replace the chassis batteries, but where do I go from there?

Thank you for your advice,

Glenn
