I'm writing this post for the readers of the forum who are not Newell owners. The forum is a great place to lean on others experiences in fixing and tinkering with things. On the other hand when a non Newell owner reads the forum, he/she might get the impression that Newell owners are constantly having to deal with problems. Therefore I thought I'd reflect on our recent trip of 1700 miles to our favorite resort down on the gulf. The Newell performed absolutely perfectly over eleven days. Some might be surprised considering my coach is now 15 years old. We used every system on the coach, every thing worked and never had to go to the tool box or spend any time diagnosing a problem. Not even a light bulb. The performance of the Newell just made the trip that much more fun! I'm on my fifth year of Newell ownership and couldn't be more pleased.

I lost about a gallon of fluid when my gauge sprang a leak. This is the fluid that operates the fan and perhaps the steering. Should I buy hydraulic fluid and if so what weight? If Dextron III is recommended, can I put in synthetic?

Just wanted to share that O'Reilly Auto has Delo 100 40W for $12.99/Gallon! They may not stock it but had it in 1 day when I ordered it. If we get it from them maybe they will continue to stock it;

After I extended the slides I had no inside lights on the front slide. It was a blown 20amp fuse. I replaced it and all the lights worked. However that night the fuse was blown again. I didn't use the lights during the day other than to check that they were working.
So I must have a short somewhere. Since it happened after the slide was extended I'm thinking it must be a pinched wire that feeds the slide.
Any idea where to start looking?

I decided to pull my front wheels and replace my bearings and seals. They were the old grease style caps and seal, I didnt realize how simple and cheap this upgrade was. IMHO a must do for these old classics.
Here are the part #s I used
Outer bearing set set 406 $18.95ea
Inner bearing set set 412 $43.50ea
Stemco seal 3828036 $31.95ea
Hub cap 3434024 $35.60ea
Total $260.00
Ok gurus bought my wife the sl65 amg. But she doesn't know I bought and she keeps wanting to go look at cars. It's being shipped here next week. How should I surprise her. Have it in the garage when she leaves one morn. Have it a work when she leaves? Trying to find some fun way to do it. Ideas?

There has been a lot of discussion regarding batteries, and you may recall that I elected to install twelve 6 volt golf cart batteries. Last night I finally had a chance to see how well they worked. With the old 8D batteries, I could only run the minimum load while boondocking for 4 or 5 hours. Last night I left running the Directv, Amana, portable freezer, compressor and fans. I used 1/8 of my battery capacity in 8 hours. Then turned on the TV, stereo, lights and coffee maker for an additional two hours. At the end of 10 hours I had used 1/5 of my capacity. Obviously, I am pleased.
