Forum: Newell History
- Replies (22)

I'd heard rumors of it, always dismissed as pure fiction. But lo & behold it's true! Newell has built coaches measuring 47' in length.

They're never advertised as such...and because it's a coach we're considering, it's causing a high degree of anxiety on my part. (Can I legally register it ~ or even drive it in California...or other states? Will there be issues fitting in camping or storage spaces?)

I've attached the official sheet I just received. Am I courting disaster?

I need your advice (and collective knowledge).

After lots of education, looking, measuring I think we've found a Newell that has the "bones" we're looking for (well, almost). It #685, a 2004, 4 slide 1.5 bath that the original owner is selling. It's got almost 93K on it, but looks to have been lovingly maintained and mechanically upgraded (365 upgrade ~ maybe anti-sway bar). It has a steering tag (critical for me), and DD special 60 with no EGR...which I'm not sure about (lots of hill climbing, is 500hp/1650 torgue enough?). I was hoping for a 600 Cummins, but my guy swears these are better.

This coach has more windows than I've ever seen in a coach ~ and almost all of them open! (Not a huge AC fan when the weather is nice). He even has the opening parts on the top, so seated you have an unobstructed view ~ which I really like.

The owner just finished a major TV upgrade and did a tremendous job.

While we like the granite entry, the "crop circles" carpeting and many of the wall furnishings make it dated. This will be a "four season" coach, and we were hoping to have full heated wood planks that would work with the existing granite...but not sure if this can be done after the fact. With the 365 series upgrade, it sounds like we have lots of CCC (waiting for the actual weigh figures to come in).

We're both pretty handy on interior finishing....would doing our own floor and redoing a lot of the phantom wall treatments be something a "lay person" with moderate experience (and a wife who can sew up a storm) tackle? The booth cushions would be a breeze, but I'm not familiar how Newells are "screwed together" so blind disassembly is always nerve wracking.

We'd love to replace the kitchen counter with granite and an induction cook top and better sink set up to provide more counter space...but we've never heard of anyone doing that.

Are we insane? Here's a link, so you can see for yourself. http://www.rvt.com/Newell-Mid-Entry-Quad...64-UX69938

Good cranking voltage, full fuel tank, new filters (changed after problem started) It tries to start and in fact actually ran a few times but lost rpm after a few seconds and stopped. I think it's a fuel problem but not sure on how to trouble shoot it. It's a 1999 coach with a Kohler 20K unit.

There was a question on another thread about trailers so I thought I'd start a new thread since there seems to be varied needs and opinions among other MH owners.
I pulled my Jeep 4 down for years with my 35' Newell. As I moved up to the 45' MH I decided to forgo the tow bar and set up a car trailer. I found a really nice used Imperial 18' car hauler that needed some sprucing up and set it up to tow with the Newell.

http://www.imperialtrailer.com/carhaulers.asp

Some trailers can be a hassle to set up ramps etc. but the Imperial has ramps that slide right out the back on rollers . It is very user-friendly. There have been times when it would not fit into a camping space. I unhook it in the campground staging area and re hook the trailer to the jeep. I can then take the trailer to a guest parking lot and leave it there during our stay.
We just returned from a 3 day trip to small town antique stores etc. There were several times when I had to back up to turn around or get into a tight spot with my rig. I feel that the maneuverability offered by having my car on a trailer is worth the other hassles.
I'm curious as to other thoughts!

Forum: Engine and Transmission Monitoring Systems
- Replies (18)

I was speaking with a very knowledgeable fellow about his rig and he works on his engine himself. He looked at my Newell and was very impressed on the build, however he wondered why there is no Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge. He says it is one of the most important things to monitor when pushing up hills as high temps mean possible damage to the engine.
Anyone have any thoughts or ways to add this feature?
