This is more or less a copy of the info presented at the rally 14 to allow you to activate the jake from either the accelerator or the brake pedal with one switch.

My cruise and jake fight in rolling terrain. This wiring allows me to have the jakes anytime I apply the brakes, OR to have it activate as usual from accelerator off when I want to slow down on a long grade. In this setup the jake does not lock or latch when the brakes are applied. It releases when the brake pedal is released if the switch is in the brake pedal position. This is different from the commercially available Brakeswitch setup.

Concept
Jake will have three modes
Off
Activated by accelerator lift
Activated by brake application

How
Rewire the existing switch and use a relay triggered by the brake light

The Relay
Tap into brake light at kick panel terminal
Run that wire to drivers right side control panel
Label it please
Use simple normally open, single pole relay
Wire trigger to terminal 85
Run ground wire to terminal 86

The switch
Use double pole double throw switch
Cole Hersee part no 59024-15
Ryder truck parts HERE
You will need two terminal splitters Splitter

How to wire the switch
On the existing switch which is double pole single throw, purple with yellow stripe on one side, brown on other side
We are going to trick the purple side
Easier if you also drop the high low switch out of the console
Put purple wire on center terminal
Put brown wire on other center terminal
Install terminal adapters on two rear terminals
Match brown and purple yellow in terminate on switch
Fab short jumper wire and jump from rear to front terminal on brown wire side
Fab two jumper wires, install relay between front and rear terminal on purple side
Curse while you reinstall switches through holes in panel

Schematic

Using it
Center position Jake OFF
Front position Jake activated as normal by accelerator off
Rear position Jake activated by brake application, Jakes release when brake is released

Looking at Richards #'s for his series 60 and talking with others I feel my engine and cooling system has a problem. I'm towing 6500 #. Climbing some of the hills going to the rally my engine temp got up to 216 once, other times it got to 208, 210. Once we left and headed north on 65 I kept the speed down to 58 and the temps were a little cooler. But as we drove on I-70 to Salina and the ambient temp got to 100 the engine was running anywhere from 198 to 212 on the hills. I did have to change the fuel filter Monday afternoon since it was plugged. Tuesday we continued to Colorado and the ambient temps were 70-80 and the engine temps ran cooler, from 193 to 208 on the harder hills.
I'll occasionally see the engine temp go from 198 to 205 even on flat ground.
So where do I start? Should I have the thermostats changed first?
Get the radiator flushed and refilled?

A few of you sat in my drivers seat and played with my seat cushion. I have no stock in these folks but I will say it is the very best seat cushion I have tried. And I have tried some very good ones including Airhawk and Wondergel. Both are very good, but not as good as this one. Ease Cushion
It plugs into the 12V plug. It works by inflating and deflating alternate chambers in the seat cushion to move pressure points.
Like me, it's ugly as all get out.

Guru's, am plugged in to 50 amp here in Lake of the Ozarks and a good size thunderstorm passed through and since I don't have a working generator I ran out and shut off the breaker for shore power during the lightning as I seem to recall you all telling me last year to switch to genny power during storm to prevent possible massive electrical surge that could fry electrical system in the coach. Please confirm this is the right thing to do and also, doesn't the surge protector cover us for this? I took no chances but sure would like to know if I need to do this every time we have lightning in the area.

Thanks

Bill

Beginning day two at Newell. Ron Skeen finished up yesterday and has left. Spent some time with Ed Perkins touring his new to him 2002.

Newell has changed out my main fuel tank gauge, put a new wheel seal in my left drive axle, replaced my drive axle brakes, adjusted all brakes and replaced the three remaining front airbags.

[Image: 600_8406.JPG]You think we had a leak?
[Image: 600_8393.JPG]Yes that is the steel cord showing!

Should be complete with the remainder of the items on my list today. As usual, the staff has been extremely helpful and gracious.

This is a short week for Newell with the 4th holiday so the shop will be closed Thursday.

Had dinner last night with new forum members Doug and Rose (Rambler) last night. Fun couple.

New owner of 1518 is onsite picking up his coach.

Doug, you did great! Your coach is gorgeous!! Sorry we are going to miss you this trip.

After Doug and then Marc get through with it, I may be next in line!!Big Grin

Always a pleasure to return to the mothership.

With the holiday traffic, everyone be careful out there.

My Newell has a bunch of these 12V light dimmers. It seems like they will waste power by converting voltage to heat when you dim. Im trying to decide if I should replace them. If I do does anybody have a suggestion? Am I worrying about something that isn't really a big deal?

Hello all,

Nice to meet you, I have got to speak with a few of you already and found a wealth of information here. Thank you... My wife and I have purchased a 74 Classic to spend time in and travel in with our six girls.

So far we have been delighted with the coach, some of you may have recognized it from pictures posted by previous owners. If you have any history with or of it please let me know. I have a book started and will be adding to it as we go. I do this with all the vehicles I build and restore.

Happy Fourth of July...

Sorry about the post in the wrong tread, if an administrator would like to delete the other intro that would be great.

Roy...
