Stopped working a couple weeks ago. Pulled the panel over microwave, disconnected red wire to reset it. Still reads 0. I believe the red/black/green wires going to the top of aqua hot are these. Anyway to take off the cover to access these?

this just started happening. the connections are ok. if you short the wire to the gauge that the sender is on it scrolls high like it should. i ran a jumper to the sender on the genny and it works. the sender ohms out to 1.1k ohms which is in spec.

so i have a bad wire from the sender to the gauge over the driver. not gonna be any fun to run new one. sounds like a wintertime project

Anyone using the Big Rig Book to find Big Rig campgrounds? Many of you may answer that yes. I tried it but found following written directions hard to follow and sometimes they led me to the wrong place. Well I have the solution for you. No it is not a Garmin nor the Kenwood or anything Newell has installed for GPS navigation. I have tried them all and I have found that Delorme's Street Atlas 2013 is the best. No it is not perfect, but it beats the competition hands down. There is a learning curve, but once you learn to use it there is no problem. You can talk to it and it will talk back to you. It gets a 0 out of 10 for finding campgrounds for Newell or any RV for that matter. BUT I CAME UP WITH THE SOLUTION. I have probably spent over 2000 hours (I am retired and full timing so I had the time) locating RV campgrounds that will accommodate a Newell (45') In fact I have found 1029 of them. I located them by using aerial photographs and when I tell you they are at such and such a place that is exactly where they are. I have been to many of them and I have talked to them to see if they will in fact accommodate a 45' coach. I also have located 852 Campgrounds that will accommodate 40' RVs and sometimes a 45' will fit but you have to call and ask. My coach is a 2010 Newell #1408 is 13' 4" tall. Therefore I worry about low clearances. I have found and located 1135 of them so you won't run into a bridge etc. Then I entered 384 road notes about mountain passes, grades and other information to keep you out of trouble that I personally encountered. Maybe you were not sure some road was a good road to take. If I took it and it was ok I tell you about it. I located 331 Flying J (Now Pilot) diesel truck stops for you. I located 161 Cummings dealers if you have engine problems. I have located 718 Corp of engineer Parks although most of them are not fit for a 45' coach. I have added 3427 road changes I found in error or missing on the Delorme program. There are also 164 Casinos that have RV camping grounds for you to use. Want to stop at a Wal Mart for the night or get food then I have marked 2722 of them that allow overnight parking and I have located 447 Wal Marts that do NOT allow overnight parking.

I originally was going to offer this system installed on a tablet you could install into the dash (If you have the where with all to do such a thing)
I asked Newell but Boyd said they were busy with other modifications.
I have a glass dash and wanted to modify my dash and install the tablet into the dash but that is a major project. I am dealing with Silver Leaf to see if they might be interested but to offer a complete system on a tablet would be kinda expensive. The tablet is $1,000 by itself. It has a 11.6" screen and runs on Windows 8. Delorme's program will not run on Windows RT or Android. Delorme will only work with Windows 7 or 8. However you can use your laptop. (It is just bulky) The data base I created is compatible with the Delorme Program. If anyone is interested I have the instructions and the data on a CD which tells you how to install it into the Delorme program. I am full timing and I plan all of my trips and stays using the Delorme program. I never have to worry if the campground will accommodate me nor where it is located and I don't need to follow any written instructions. My GPS and Delorme take me directly to my destination. The Delorme program and GPS receiver can be purchased for $49.95 from Delorme, and my data base with all of the above information can be purchased from me for the same price. $49.95.

Hello all! I'm from... well that question isn't as easy to answer as it could be. I have a house in NM, my family is curently living in SoCal, and I'm in MD working, where I hope everybody will be soon. And I'm originally from OR. So, I'm from somewhere.

I do not have a Newell, but am considering one... or three? So here is the clue that I'm hoping you fine people with lots of experience can chime in on. I'm a mechanical engineer, so have just enough knowledge to be sure that I don't know anything...

There are three late 70's early 80's Newells available. I'm sure that many of you have seen the postings. I have an interest in at least one, but if a deal that makes sense could be made, thought all three could be interesting...

But that is all still a bit on the fantasy side until I figure out what I could be getting in to.

I have seen them in person, and all need tires and batteries. Not sure the tires would even make it on to a tow bed. There is a report that states one of them wasn't running, possibly due to batteries, but I've not heard any of the systems operate. What I was able to see is all over the map.

I could only get inside 2 of the coaches as there was a key issue with one of them. Outside, the units are all relatively complete, with some trim, paint, and odds and ends missing or broken. The odds and ends could be pretty expensive, or not, but that goes back to my knowledge gap. Several of the rail window seals are coming out, and many of the doors are hard to operate, or line up to get latched. I don't think I'm too worried about that though. Of the 2 I was able see inside, both had evidence of some level of past fire. One had a roof A/C unit that had clearly replaced one that had smoked. One has a pump mounted in the basement that had flamed... Those are a bit more disconcerting as the level of damage and replacement required to ensure safety could range from minor, to... well not minor.

Water damage and water damage repairs are evident in the overheads of the two units I could see. And the third has some loose or damaged components on the roof, so wouldn't expect much better.

The interiors are pretty much intact, but worn, and of course dated to the age of each coach. Overall the floors were solid, but did find a couple of spots that may indicate damage. The basements were also intact, but the structural elements appeared to have some delam and separation in areas. So back to likely water damage.

One of the coaches has significant cracking of paneling and cabinetry. Almost all the way around mid-ship, but spread out over about the middle 15 feet of teh coach. Cracks are several feet over 2 feet long in many cases and open in several places. Not knowing anything about buses, but looking at this from a purely structural perspective, I would think this could indicate possible strutural damage. But I suppose it could also be representative of a run that really flexed and twisted the coach. But again, I've no experience in which to base a reliable opinion.

The mechanicals all appear intact, no big holes in the blocks, big fluids failures, etc. But a simple visual inspection is far from sufficient to determine how much life is in any of the components. No compression checks, operating pressures, temperatures, ect. No idea the condition of the injectors or pumps, turbo bearings, etc. The amount of time they have not been operated is considerable, but unknown. Have no idea of the care of operation, cold (shock) starts/stops or other operator behavior that could crack pistons and wipe bearings. Not entirely sure that the air systems are all together. The brakes may be intact and what I see are disconnected service air components? But, would take time to sort for sure.

All of the coaches' suspensions have leaked down, but unsure if this is a realtively natural operating condition or if it indicates leakage of some type.

The price for all three is $35k, but I think that is too high?

So with much unknown, what do you all think? Is this too much? Or too much for a newbie? At what point is a coach not worth restoring?

OK so I goofed. I posted this in the wrong place so maybe I got it right this time so here goes:

Howdy from Syd. Just learning how to navigate so it is a learning stage. I have not figured it all out yet. I am having a Headhunter water pump problem. The pump cycles on and off. I was told it was a air lock. OK. I opened the faucets at all points and ran the pump then shut off the faucets and the pump cuts off at about 60 lbs. Great I said. I fixed it. Sometime later while taking a shower no water. Dang I go outside and sure enough the pump has shut down. However, if I use the aux. pump it pumps UP and then cuts off. (lIKE IT SHOULD) So I am thinking I have a leak in the suction line. O Joy. That is hard to get to. So that is what I will check next. What had happened before I had this problem was the plastic fitting on top split and I had to order a new fitting. I got two. I replaced them which was a chore. Newell uses some pipe dope that is like lock tite. Hard as steel so I broke the other fitting trying to get it off. So I replaced both. I guess I will have to undue the inlet fitting and see if it was sucking air. ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS?

i am on the hunt for the air pressure regulator for my drivers seat. richard has on in the middle bay on the wall, but i do not. i have looked in all the bays, nada.

any hints?

Spent yesterday re-tracing all of our steps to fix my genny and still no luck. Checked for good ground and was not that...finally called the Kohler folks and they referred me to some folks in Des Moines. Will have it checked out on monday. Called the tech and he asked alot of good questions and basically said that the reason the genny won't stay running is due to the fact it will not transfer the load and carry the power back. He said it was a system design. So hopefully we will have gen capabilities monday sometime.. as it is beginning to warm up and driving w/o genny ac made me reminisce of my college days driving across country in a 72 Super Beetle one summer and I'm too old and fat for that!
Will keep you all posted.

We are still in Spearfish visiting friends for a few days before we head home. We really enjoyed the rally and the opportunity to meet so many Gurus that I felt I already knew based on their posts.

I am willing to start work on a rally in Austin at La Hacienda RV Resort (the site for the 1st Newell Mini-Rally back in 2009) if anyone is interested. As many of you know, deep winter and summer are NOT optimal times for rallies in Texas unless the potential for ice or sweltering heat are your thing. Therefore, Spring or Fall would be optimal.

If there is no interest that is fine. If there is, give me some feedback and we can see if we can work out some potential dates.
