When in storage my chassis batteries go dead unless I have the battery boost switch turned on.
Is this normal?
My previous coach a Newmar had bi-directional relay sometimes called a bird relay which managed the charge from the charger or the alternator to both sets of batteries.
I don't find one on the Newell
Any idea if Newell has one ?

Gurus,

On my last trip I stopped at a parking space and turned the key off.  Guess what....the engine kept on running.  Hmmm.  I took key out of switch and then put it back in.  I turned to the right (accessory) and noticed that the dash lights came on.  That told me that the switch is probably ok.

At this point, I assumed that there was a stuck relay in the panel below the passenger feet.  I looked and found a likely candidate.  (DDEC IGN ST) .  When I pulled the relay, the engine died.  Success!

I then plugged the relay back in and tried to start the engine with the key.  No dice.  At this point, the engine was off and would not start with the key.

I called a guru and ran the scenario past him.  He asked me if I had started the engine with the remote switch which is located in the cabinet on passenger side in the rear-most compartment.  I had not even thought about the rear switch.  Since the key was not working, I started the engine using the remote switch and drove home.  Of course the key did not turn off the engine...I had to use the remote switch to turn the engine off as well.

Today, I tried to install a new relay in the DDEC IGN ST socket.  No joy.  I could hear a relay click whenever I tried to start with the key.  That relay turns out to be IGN ST.  I replaced that relay as well and now everything works.  Turns out the IGN ST relay has some burned looking spots on it.

I could not find exact matches for the relays that I had, but they are extremely generic.  I bought these relays from amazon.

Lessons Learned: 1)  The key controls relays located under the passenger's feet.  2)  If your engine does not turn off....0) Remember CTD...Check the Transmission Dummy. (The engine will not stop while the transmission is in gear) Next, think about if you started it with the remote start.  3)  The third step is to pull and replace these two relays (DDEC IGN ST and IGN ST).  4)  Think ahead and make sure you have a few of these relays on hand.  (I didn't but do now)

Cheers,
bill

Our aqua hot froze last year.  We took it to a semi repair shop and they replaced all the coils.  We had a local RV service center put it back in.  Turned it back on for the first time on Saturday and water was leaking out of the top and down the side.  It is heating.  Can you possibly tell me what is wrong and how I can fix it?  Already spent $6000 to supposedly fix it. Does anyone have a part number for the direct replacement for the valves that shut off the heater core up front and the AquaHot.  They mount into a manifold in the left rear of the coaches.  There are four valves.

Thanks in advance..............................

From the day I’ve considered purchasing a Newell, storage has been a hurdle I’ve got to deal with. Finding an affordable storage facility with electricity and reasonable access is almost nonexistent. Of course I want my own “Bus Barn” but I have a POA in our subdivision to deal with.

I can design a structure that would blend in with the subdivision architectural theme but the giant sized door could be an issue until I found this:

I have room on our property to build but I may be in for a battle with the POA and overreaching city ordinances...

We’ll see

I thought someone might be interested in the bifold door option, it’s basica a narrow hangar door...

I wanted to put this post under Generators. Please feel free to move it.....

Our 1984 Newell with a 12 kw Perkins gen set has been shutting down after 2 or 3 hours run time. Doesn't matter if its Yuma in July, or the other day in Denver at 15 degrees. Our old analog gauges indicate oil pressure and coolant temps are fine. Oil level is ok, and no coolant is being expelled by the gen set.

Today I decided to give things a good look, and have become side tracked by another unrelated issue.   ( See attached photo)  The pulley on the motor driving the blower is broken. I have never seen anything like this. I am assuming it is die cast, and at some time in it's life someone has tried to remove it with a good blow with a hammer?

The blower is old with brass bushings, and is very noisy so I think the time has come for a new blower, and a replacement pulley. The original blower is a very obsolete Grainger 2C975 . The current Grainger offering is 5NRD2. It looks like there will be a little welding of sheet metal from the old blower to the new unit.

Can anyone who has been down this trail please chime in with your experience? After getting this done i will focus on the shutdown issue.
