Gurus,

I am at a dog show in rural Mississippi.  I am parked on grass on a slight upward incline.  It rained all day yesterday and the coach to the left of me got stuck when they tried to leave.  The tow truck drug them within a foot of my drivers mirror on the way out.

What is the best procedure for getting out of a muddy field?

My plan is to use the diff lock to lock the axles together AND to use the tag switch to increase traction.

Is this a good idea?  Any thoughts would be welcome.

Actually, I’m not leaving til tomorrow and think the ground will be firm but I am using this as a learning experience.

The bridge in front of the house is 23 tons, I believe.  Its sufficiency is rated at 70.  I am not really sure exactly what sufficiency is, but I read on the state site that it has to do with serviceability, use and how essential it is.

It is pretty long at over 200 feet.  I think it is about 75 feet down.

I am looking into making changes to my fuel system and looking for any comments or links on the topic. A little background. It looks as though my coach (1983 with Cummins) originally came with a ConMet water separator and primary fuel filter. These are installed high up in the engine bay, above the injector pump inlet. Somewhere along the line the ConMet was ditched and a disposable one installed. This new style claims to filter the fuel to 20 microns, and the primary filter also filters to 20 microns. Cummins recommends 20 micron.

I am considering moving the filters to be located above the fuel tank, but below the injector pump inlet. I have 3 reasons for considering the move. The first is that air in the system accumulates in the fuel separator because its the highest point. Secondly, the high point puts pressure on the shut off valve and may cause some leak down. Lastly, lowering them will improve the suction from the tank.

My goal is to help improve cold start smoke levels. Reducing air in the system I think may help some. Not looking for miracles, its always going to be a smokey beast naturally. I have checked the fuel lines themselves and haven't found leaks so I believe the air is getting in with the fuel or possibly through the shut down valve.

Anyone think this is a worthwhile venture? Also, anyone see a benefit to having both filters?

it was about half off.  about 4 feet.  had been on with 2 sided trim tape.  so darlene and i worked on it.  i know most do rivets, but i thought i would try doing it like original.  so spent along tim with air sander, rust remover and sandpaper.  once that was done, wiped it down with alcohol.  then used heatgun, 3m adhesive remover and a 1/2" wide wood chisel to slowly get that hardened double sided tape off the trim.  took several hours. 

put it back and it seems super solid.

Ok gurus here I go again, I was installing new gauge for aqua hot and ended up shorting out the board for the temp gauge for bay and coach. Is there some place to buy new or send board in to get it repaired. There are just something that you can’t fix with duct tape.

I am glad to announce that the plans for the 2019 Guru rally have been finalized.  This will be our 5th year of having the rally.  The rally will be at Bella Terra RV Resort in Foley, Alabama.  Any & all are welcome to join us.  For those of you that have not joined us at Bella Terra before,  the Guru rally is just an opportunity for Newell owners to socialize with other Newell owners in the S/E part of the country. 

We will be there from May 1st thru May 15th.  Join us for any time within that period or the entire time.  Bella Terra is a top rated resort with all expected amenities.  They have 3 levels of sites which range from no improvements to full outdoor kitchens.  Make your own reservation for the site  & type you desire.  All Newells are welcome in this park, if with the rally  Classics too.    Both the park management & the Homeowners Association have agreed to waive the 15 year rule for any Newell attending the rally.  If you have any problems, let me know & I will take care of it.  For anyone who wishes to take advantage of the monthly rate, Suzy & I will be staying for the entire month of May.

The resort is located just a block north of Gulf Shores, AL and is just a 15 minute drive to beautiful white sand beaches.  Lots of good restaurants & shopping to meet any one's taste.  During this period the area has a balloon fest, Art in the Park and a music festival on the beach.  It is only a 1/2 hour drive to Florida.  The Blue Angels put on exhibitions twice a week in Pensacola--free.

Hi folks. My partner and I have owned RVs for 10+ years now. We previously had a 2011 Tiffin and sold it when we moved to Atlanta 3 years ago. Next spring will be the time we start hunting for our next coach. I would much rather have a used newell than a new tiffin. I have never been inside a newell but I know that our next coach will be a used newell. Under $200k for sure. 

The few things that I feel like I wouldn't want to live without are the steerable tag axle, the air door (preferably mid not front) and the shades that all go up/down with a push or a button. I do really love the murphy bed design that some newells have. Putting a big TV on the underside lets the bedroom play double duty as a living room or home theater. That makes so much more sense to me than a regular bed. 

What features do YOU really like in your newells? 

i had heard that with the massive cancellations of sat tv customers moving to online sources that there were some pretty crazy retention programs for current directv customers.  

i have had directv for years.  my daughter and her husband cancelled directv and went with several different online sources.  

so i called directv number at 1-978-890-3027, some special number for retention evidently.  told them i was looking at online content sources and they immediately offered to cut my bill in half for 12 months.  from 116 per month to 58.  i just said that wasnt good enough and they dropped it to 30 bucks a month for 12 months.  sometimes they have gift card offers on top of it so ask for a gift card as well.  they said they were out of them today.  

no hassle, on the phone for a total of ten minutes

can cancel at anytime.  my contract period was up.  

that was my experience and many others are getting the same kind of deals.  there is an entire thread on slickdeals about it.

We left our coach in Denver last month and flew to Los Angeles for a little Grand daughter time. Freezing was not going to be an issue as we  (I) had checked the weather predictions. You know where this post is going. Day three of our vacation away from full time rv life, I saw that it had been getting in the teens at night in Denver. Whatever damage was done was already done. 

 When we returned to Denver, with a little block heater time, the 8V92 came quickly to life along with the engine compressor. Sure enough we had multiple plumbing leaks. The coach is a combo of PEX and copper. Zero PEX damage, but multiple copper splits, and copper compression fittings pushed off the ends of the copper runs. 1 toilet inlet valve was split along with a shower head. The Everpure Water filter system was split in many areas of plastic and aluminum fittings and  for the time being my solution is to leave the ball valve off to the Everpure .Time for a new system there. After 2 weeks of  Amazon orders ,replacing parts and re testing  the system, we are leak free. The remaining problem I was having was when I turned off the ball valve to the Everpure system which feeds the drinking water tap in the kitchen and the ice maker, I had no kitchen sink water.   2 weeks of no kitchen water, and too d**n cold to trouble shoot any further.

 For some reason, today Richards past advice about starting with the simple was in my head. After cleaning  out the "very hidden"  strainer inside the kitchen faucet handle, we now have water, Duh...

Well, we discovered lots of nice places to eat in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi ............
