Forum: Discussion about what to consider on buying a used Newell
- Replies (49)
New member here. I have been contemplating selling my bumper pull camper and buying a used motor coach so that I can pull my boat on family trips. I have seen this Newell sitting for years in my local area and while I do not need any more projects, after doing some internet searching I realized this might be worth looking into. I gave it a quick look the other day and can see it has pealing clear coat, cracked sidewall tires and some rust stains around trim strips etc.
I got ahold of the owner and he is an older gentleman in poor health. He claims the interior was redone in the late 90's and that it has no known mechanical problems other than it needs new batteries. Any idea on what year it is and a price range I might want to offer. I will stop and look inside tomorrow, I am assuming it has lots of issues from sitting that the owner is likely unaware of. I am thinking it is worth $10-20k ? Edit... Tried to post a picture, but it did not go through...

i thought i would start a new thread on my replacing the front salon slide seal. i followed paul's thread with great interest on doing his. that said, my slide mechanisms are very different. so it will be a different process.
there is no access to the two slide rams in the front driver side front wheel well or in the bay behind the entrance door. shucks...that would have been alot easier.
on mine, you have to unthread the two rams after dropping the slide floor. i will take pictures as i do it. also, paul in his coach had a limit switch you had to remove that senses when the slide is fully extended.
mine doesnt have the same kind. mine has a sensor that is tripped by a magnet, just like the magnets on top of the slide that sense when the slide is in and puts the slide pins down.
my cart is done except for glueing the carpet on the two platforms.
i am just finishing up putting the new inverter in and once that is done i will start on the slide.
the magnetic sensor was in the bay directly under the center of the slide.
once i get the inverter in, i will pull the slide in just a little so i can take the valence off and all the pieces that stop the slide from extending completely out.

Hi, coach 317 here, I believe the classic body style, in need of rear bumper any advice on best place to get it from?? Thanks in advance

Hello,
Any advise gratefully received!
I have a 20KVA Power Tech genny, After starting it runs for only around 10 seconds before shutting down, the green light flashing twice which indicates genny over temp, this is not possible as its only been running for 10 seconds from cold, if i reset it then it just does the same.
Any advise as to what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

I'd love to tap the collective wisdom of this group - specifically about Newell's Murphy Bed option. I've seen it offered in a number of coaches like this one https://www.newellcoachsales.com/default...lInventory and this one https://www.newellcoach.com/default.asp?...dInventory.
From a "daytime" aspect, I really like the idea of literally having full use of a second living room. The idea of mounting a large TV on the bottom of the bed (Mini theater if you will) and having an adjacent couch or pair of theater chairs seems really inviting to passengers when the road side views are...monotonous. But I have concerns/questions I can't find answers to.
1) How hard are they (weight wise) to put up and down? Are they counter-balanced, electronically operated or other ways "assisted" in their operation? Could someone's wife do it without issue?
2) Why are they always just 66" wide? We really like a King sized bed, but Murphy beds never seem to be offered any wider, why?
3) Elevation off the floor. I did see one up close, and when the bed was down, the top of the mattress hit mid-calf. Are they always that low to the ground?
4) Bed comfort. Are you giving up anything in the comfort of the bed? Can you accommodate a sleep number mattress?
5) Putting it up. Stupid question, but when your DW sleeps under three blankets, do you have to disassemble all the bedding or is there a way to keep it all in place when going vertical?
Any info really appreciated!!!

2 slides, mid bath, https://www.rvonline.com/single-ad.asp?Recnumber=70527
Even though I am a production line coach owner, I've read enough here to know all Newells are different.
However, Patty and I plan on full timing when I retire and feel we will need 4-5K CCC. Our present coach has 4,500 lb CCC.
Should we be looking at only two slide coaches in this year range (2002-'04)? Seems that some fuel tanks are very large, and there might some capacity moved from fuel to "stuff". I read some owners have upgraded to a 365 tire from a 315, but I don't see how that would help assuming that the 315's carried max load of the axle rating. Did they change the front axle too?
Thanks, I appreciate your help. I will have many more questions.
