Hi there Newell Guru's
My old classic is a 1975 35ft with 2 air conditioners. Found someone selling a 5500 watt Onan quiet diesel. My current generator is an Onan gas 6500 that run's but it doesn't seem to be right to me. This is very likely the original since it has an Onan chrome logo on the front generator door. The install appears to be original.
Has anyone had any experience with these. Is the 5500 watt big enough? Is there anything I should look out for?

hi all,
there are a number of threads about this but i just wanted to highlight what i did after this last trip this summer of 2017. my 120v compressor gave up.
it was a jun-air 302 that i had got on ebay 5 years ago for 100 bucks. my compressor is mounted in the generator blower bay on the side of the coach.
so i looked on ebay. i found a jun-air 322 that i got for 140 bucks shipped. it was mounted on a frame and had an hour meter that has 0.2 hours on it. if had obviously never been used. you have to make sure that if you buy a used one that it is 120v and not 240v.
it is a slightly higher amperage by about 2 amps. 6.6 on 302 to 8.8 or so on this one. so a little bigger motor, but the compressor as a whole is exactly the same size.
when i got it, it was plumbed and set up as two separate compressors. these are two piston units. one side was low pressure and the other side was high pressure. and it was wired strangely as well inside the motor.
i contacted jun-air technical support and they sent me how to re-wire the unit internally. no way to guess because there is an internal wiring block with alot of wire on it and you dont know where they go behind the block. so i took a few wires out and moved a few others and walla, it turned on. the of302 i had has a tube that is on top of the unit that connects the two cylinders to make it operate as a single unit. so, i made mine a two stage compressor by taking the output of the low side and inputing it into the air intake of the high side, and then taking the output of the high side to the coach.
i installed it today to test it and it works great. i think it builds pressure faster than the other one. i had the small high temp air hose made at a parker store to link the two cylinders together. you need to use teflon stainless braided for that because the air gets hot.
i have to do the finish install to pretty it up, but will get around to that later.
these compressors sell for nearly a grand, so it is nice to find good deals on them once in a while.

I do not own a Coach but really like the older Newells and Blue Birds. Recently found this site and have enjoyed reading the posts and have learned a lot about Newells. Thanks to the owner of this thread and to those of you who share your questions, ideas and solutions. Obviously owning an older coach will bring about some things that need to be repaired and/or maintained. The knowledge posted on your site is very helpful. I am close to retirement and planning to buy my first coach in the next year or so. Currently I like the early to mid 2000's. Thank you for allowing me to be a participant on this site. Folks, I do engineered wood in coaches. If you want some LVT, I have up doing that product a year ago. Mannington Adura was the best material for that, however.

We replaced our tag axle airbags last year and now we want to replace the rear axle and front axle bags.
Does anyone have a record of the bag numbers for a 1997 Newell 45 foot coach?

I am looking for a con met cm99-500d filter. It seems that con met now only deals in hubs and brake drums. Does anybody have a source or cross reference number. Thanks in advance.

I need to plug into a 20 amp GFI plug, but when I do the plug faults. I have adjusted the inverter down to 15 amps. I have shut every thing off, but it still faults. Sometimes it will stay on for a short period & my electrical monitoring gauges shows a draw of 7 amps. Is there something in my vintage coach that keeps us from using a GFI protected circuit? Is there a work around? I only want to run the battery charger and the refrigerator.
I called Newell & they had never been asked the question and knew of nothing in the coach that would prevent using a GFI protected circuit.

After replacing the generator back into the coach one of the water hoses rubbed cracked and was leaking coolant. Replaced the hose and then had an air lock..the way we finally got it to release was to Crack the butterfly valve on top of the thermostat housing. Let the water level in the reservoir drop then top it back off and crack the valve again. Repeat approximately 20 times until water flowed from butterfly valve.

On our latest trip we experienced some issues with our toilet. The bowl will not hold water which I assume is a gasket issue and we now have no water to the toilet. After researching several posts on this site I am convinced the toilet has never operated as it should. My question is where should I start to correct these issues.
