Hi y'all,
I'm looking for compression latches for my storage doors. I own #637 and I have a few broken latches.  Where's the best place to find these.

Good morning, my wife and I recently bought a 1982 Newell coach that was in need of some love and so far my biggest hurdle has been trying to find a replacement blinker switch for in the steering column. I have the original "working" somewhat where I have all necessary lights however I have a front blinker that comes on with the brakes and that's just not cool. I called the Newell factory and spoke to the tech guys and all they could tell me was they didn't know what it was but it more than likely was a GM factory part. I would really love to be able to identify and buy a new switch without having to replace the steering column. Thank you,

I am based on the West Coast, so all of my travels have a beginning and end out here and limited passing thru our other beautiful states.

I have an opportunity to speak to some politicians, Union leaders and heavy civil contractors on 9/22. All of which will listen, and none will do anything about the quality of the CA state Highways.

My question/survey has 2 parts.

1) What are you least 3 favorite states to drive though. I rate this on the bumps, offsets, potholes and ruts left from winter truck chains traffic.  I'm not concerned with the amount of traffic or congestion or short off ramps etc.

2) What are you favorite or best states to travel through? Smoothness, (I could fall asleep driving through here)

I'll start

I'm disliking.
CA, OK and LA

I like
NV, ID, TX.

I removed the tag axle tire while working on the solar project and today reinstalling the tire and wheel. things where going good and i was torqueing them to 475 foot pounds as it says on the nut 450-500 foot pounds, but 2 of them almost got to torque but got loose all of a sudden, then I crawled behind and found this. Either my torque wrench is off or they became damaged at some other time. ???

Hi all, not a good day for coach #530. Just crossed the Mississippi River into Minnesota on i90 going up a bit of a hill and oil pressure started to drop. I pulled over on the side of the road (where I am now) and big puddle of oil under the passenger side of the coach. I opened up the engine door where the batteries are and a bunch of broken metal pieces all over. Looking deeper there’s a big hole in the side of the block under the starter.

If anyone knows a good tow company and a place to take it to around Lacrosse WI or Winona MN would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Update 9/19/23

The newly rebuilt engine is being installed today! All the fancy chrome pieces are be put on the new engine!

Early Analysis: The Rod bolts broke (WRONG! valve broke) which sent the the Rod through the side of the block.  I had the cruse control set to 65. I did notice my speed dropping down to about 57 just before the Rod broke. My main focus at the time was oil pressure. It was at about 49 psi still in 6th gear with Mode selected.  Then the gears started to shift. First 5th gear for about 1 second. Then 4th gear. Im guessing when it dropped into 4th gear is when all the drama happened because right after that my oil pressure dropped down to about 12 psi.

What I learned from this:

Take the coach out of cruse control going up any grade. I thought the engine and transmission would have safety precautions so the engine would not over rev the RPMs. I guess it did not?  If you do need to go into a low gear, try to ease into it.

Safe travels everyone one. Hopefully we will be back on the road by the end of the week. We were lucky to have a condo in Chicago about 4:30 away from Peterbilt where the new engine is being installed in Minnesota.

Kathleen and I have discussed this and three days prior to the Newell rally which would be the 6th to the 8th of October the weather permitting we would like to have a pre rally here at our home on our property it would include a car show, cookout for two nights one night on us the other would be potluck. We have 15 acres of near level pasture and this is where the weather could be an issue I have no problem driving my coach on it but if we were to get a rain that could be an issue so this is where we need to keep an eye on the weather prior to the event. First of October here in Northwest Arkansas is genuinely beautiful and there are many activities that you can do during the daytime in Bentonville like Crystal Bridges and many restaurants and over 40 miles of bike trails paved bike trails. The Newell rally will take off on the 9th and it's an easy drive from here to Grove Oklahoma. As far as accommodations are home will be open but you'll have to run your generators bring a full bag of water and pack your black water out.

Let’s try this again as a new thread. (Sorry!)

I purchased my first coach a bit under two years ago, a 2011 Tiffin Allegro RED 38 qba. Over the last two years I've had the opportunity to travel extensively, logging nearly 19k miles. While I've very much enjoyed my experience, it's made me realize there are a number of things I wish were different. But I'm reluctant to put a bunch of money into a coach that doesn't have the "bones" to ever be the experience I'm looking for. And while I never dreamed of being able to own a Newell coach, I have been incredibly impressed with the stories I'm hearing about Newell's being "1.5 million mile coaches." I've was also very impressed that Newell continues to support and be willing to work on older coaches. This is NOT the case with Tiffin that has a strict policy that they will only work on coaches that are less than ten years old. I need to also mention that while my wife is (somewhat reluctantly) coming around to the idea that we own an RV, she is generally someone for whom "getting there" has never been what she gets excited about. She's more of a "let's get to our destination as quickly as possible so we can enjoy what we're going there for." To that end, I believe the superior ride quality of even an older Newell is going to enhance her experience while traveling allowing her to enjoy the journey more. And if she's more comfortable "getting there," there's a great opportunity for her to have some of the experiences I've had while traveling with our sons.

What I'm looking for?

  • A more solid coach that doesn't creak and make noise when driving over anything but the smoothest of surface
  • A smoother, quieter ride
  • A coach that isn't under-powered like my current one (340 HP pushing 32k lbs)
  • A coach that I know isn't going to fall apart around me from the vibration of the road
  • A coach that will have the space for my wife and I to both be comfortable once we get to our destination
  • And, ideally, I'd like to be able to find a coach that I can get in the $100-$200k price range and wouldn't require an immediate outlay of more than $20k to get everything working
  • At the age of 61 and (hopefully) approaching retirement, I'd rather find a coach that I can keep, maintain, and know for the next ten years rather than consider "upgrading" every 3-5 years.I'm thinking that the quality of Newell would allow me to buy something that I can afford now and continue to love and maintain for a decade rather than feeling as though I'm trying to keep something together with chewing gum and bailing wire.

What are my concerns?
  • Number one is can a twenty-year-old coach be reliable?
  • While I would likely plan to go directly to Newell annually for regular maintenance, will I be able be able to find reliable service closer to Atlanta if I need it? (I'm currently struggling with a chassis a/c issue on my Tiffin that despite spending $3,300 with the dealer I purchased it from to replace just about everything, it still isn't blowing cold!)
  • Do I have to be concerned about being able to find parts for an older coach?
  • How prepared do I have to be for major issues?
  • How much is reasonable to budget annually for regular maintenance and repairs? I feel I'm capable of handling most "house" type repairs but I'm definitely not qualified to do anything with the engine, transmission, slides, etc.

I'm sure there are many things I'm not thinking of that I should be. But I'm just incredibly grateful to see that this community exists and that everyone seems to be so incredibly helpful. Thanks for including me here and I apologize in advance for all the stupid or naive questions I'm sure I'll be asking. Thanks for being patient with me.

Herb

This is Jared Barbee with Diamond Shield. He removed the original front protective film from our coach that had dried, yellowed, and cracked.

Jared is from Neosho Missouri and traveled to our shop in Bentonville and worked diligently for two days removing the old and replacing with a new Diamond Shield Film. We enjoyed getting to know Jared, he’s a family man and Veteran.

His advice to us is to keep the new film clean after a trip, remove bugs as soon as possible, and treat with 303 Aerospace Protectant. 303 will protect from UV rays and keep the film flexible and moist.

It was very refreshing to have quality, professional work completed in a timely manner. Thank you Jared!

Diamond Shield 888-806-5862 ask for Brett to get details and a quote.

The before that my DW couldn’t stand. It wasn’t like that a couple of years ago, seems to happen quickly. I probably dried it out cleaning it.

Any ideas on what could cause a humming noise in the upper console cabinet on the passenger side of the cockpit.  There are two circular 2" vent openings in the upper far corners on both sides of the upper front cabinets and there is a hum or fan type noise coming from the right one.  Below is a picture of the back and you can see the vent at the top and a junction box mounted on the outer wall.  I can't get into the area without dismantling the cabinet.  I hear a slight sound change when I turn on the small overhead light in the right side audio cabinet.  Very odd.
Thanks.

I have a pretty good air leak fron a hose fitting on this manifold and before I remove the bad fitting I want to know what it supplies. It has 7 hoses, 1 in 6 out.
I am at a camp ground and the 120 pump runs every 2 minutes for 10 seconds. I am sure I am popular at 2 am!
