I'm getting a little frustrated on this one. We aren't going anywhere this summer, so I've got lots of time. About 6 weeks ago I noticed a diesel leak under the coach. It was leaking on the exhaust crossover. I took some pictures and we kept getting higher up, following the leak. Last week we identified the culprit - a leak in the return line. There is a return filter on the side of the C15, above and foot back from the starter. They started with a black braided hose (about 2.5 ft) - just about getting past everything then they had some fittings that changed the braided line to end with a push-on with 5/8" green plastic hose. Reaching under that found the leak (about a drop every 10 seconds). Doesn't sound like much, until it does it for weeks...
We were already surprised by the push on fitting and we got more surprised when it was an air fitting. I doubt much that the o-rings were viton. I talked to Newell parts and know one knows anything. I definitely don't want to go back to a push on air fitting. Tomorrow I will call Service. Every Newell has a return line. so somebody should have some ideas. Its low pressure too...
I'm leaning toward a 1/2" ID barb to a 1/2" NPT male fitting. 316 SS, It is good for diesel and I can put one or two worm drive clamps. McMaster-Carr 53505K73 appears to be close.
I've had no luck finding a 5/8" compression fitting with a 1/2" NPT male end that is built for a 5/8" hard hose for diesel, or a push-on for that matter.

Karl Blade has announced the passing over the weekend of Tommy Key after complications from cancer. Tommy had worked for Newell for 42 years and 7 months. He was employed by Newell in February of 1980. When he died he was the most senior employee at Newell Coach.

Tommy was the service writer that I met shortly after purchasing my Newell back in 2006. I will miss Tommy. He was an outstanding gentleman. My condolences to his wife Lori.

Ride in Peace my friend.

My sensor has been a bit squirrelly this week, so, as part of my waste tank cleaning, I let the tank fill all the way.

This morning, my olfactory alarm notified me that my tank was a bit more than just 100% full!  I opened the "wet" bay and found it was holding true to its name.  Angry  On the top of the waste tank, were puddles of waste water.  Da Heck?

So, I drained the tank and performed a hazmat cleanup with some Pine-sol on a rag wire-tied to a pole.  Industrious of me, I know.  ha.

Now the question is...

ARE THOSE TOP FITTINGS SUPPOSED TO BE FULLY SEALED ONTO THE TANK?  This really isn't as dumb of a question as it sounds to me, because I personally think they should.  However, in the world of Newell, sometimes things aren't always as "normal" as one would think.

I have a suspicion that THIS is the source for many of our Newells being "smelly" as they off-gas on hot days.  Rather than venting through the roof, I think the gases are escaping into the under-bays and wafting up through the floor.

THEREFORE, my gut-instinct is to attack those fittings with some really good plumbing sealant.  I have a tech request into Newell to verify with them as well which is also my way of saying, "hey, this isn't good, so you might remember it for the next person."

I trust that more than one of you has addressed this matter and can suggest what you used for sealant.  Gonna be pretty hard to get around those fittings as well; not looking forward to that back-twister.

Thanks,
Steve

Does anyone know the ins and outs of the water separator? I have the SMC AFM30-N02BC-Z water separator. It has a gray plastic 'switch' at edge of the top, and I drain it manually when it gets close to half full. Mine never had a 3/8 hard line on the bottom of the drain. I added one to drain properly, and now its a lot harder to loosen it up.
I did see on a different model that the interior 'sponge' would "lift up" which provided an alternate drain path - does this one work that same?
And finally, does anyone have the instructions for it?

We have had a reoccurring problem with the PS salon slide.  After changing the extend and retract solenoids, the slide appeared to work correctly.  It was at the RV shop waiting on the generator install and the slide was in as designed.  I picked up the coach on Thursday to return it to storage and the slide was in correctly.  When I returned on Saturday the slide had crept out 2-3 inches.  I then extended the slide out and retracted it back in.  The slide immediately crept out about 4 inches and stopped.  Could the solenoid have failed this soon or could there be a leak in the slide mechanism somewhere that is not obvious?  I have not seen any fluid on the floor when the slide is extended.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

Could a failed capacitor cause the breaker to consistently trip and what would be some cause for such a failure?  I've chasing  a cumulative series of no pump action.  The shaft turns, replaced the pressure switch, and no evidence of air in the system.  Pump is a 3yr old half price replacement from HH.

Has anyone found a source for compression fittings on the door release valves?  It is metric threads, 12 X 1.50 mm with an "O" ring or gasket to an 8 mm plastic line (5/16" would work).  I'm on the road and haven't found any.  I do not want swivel fittings, they can be straight or a 90 degree fitting.  I wouldn't mind finding some street ells that size either.  Compression only please.......

Saw this vintage “The Newell” (1989) tucked amongst many a production coach at the RV One Superstore in Concord NC.
Looked very clean and well kept inside
Thought somebody might like to take note… collectors?
