We are at Oshkosh now for Airventure week starting next Monday. Third year for us in the Newell, if your here stop by and see us , space L251. We left Texas to escape the 100 degree heat only to battle failure of 2 of the 3 basement ac’s to condenser freon leaks. I have vacuum pump, gauges, lots of R22, torch and silver solder. So repairs almost done. Also failure of wet air tank in rear. Lesson there, automatic drain valves rust shut. The tank isn’t fun to change. Front 2nd air tank same issue, but previous owner drilled the pin hole and placed in a screw. That tank is next on work order.
No other Newell’s seen on trip up, if your into airplanes, this event is to be experienced. I’m a airplane guy, hence why I love Newell’s, just built well like airplanes are.
Hi All,
I am parked at an older park in RI that only has a 30 amp service. I just updated and replaced my ammeters and voltmeters to what is attached. I relocating them to over the door to make space for nicer speakers on each side of the TV. The blue power button is to turn on and off the antenna in case I need to reset it.
Sorry for the tangent...I was hoping the original voltmeters were not accurate, but unfortunately for me they were. I am only seeing between 99 and 104 volts on each leg (remember I am on a 30 amp 120 volt service). I checked at the plug and it gets 110 volts or thereabouts - not great, but better than in the coach.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can reduce the voltage drop to my panel? I know 110 is still low and the park needs to get it closer to 120, but it seems I have an issue in the coach too.
Thanks in advance.
I posted the following in another thread but was not able to upload pictures.
2005 #744 Three Valid Slides, Mid Entry
I experienced a slide malfunction today. We had already parked, extended the slides, leveled the coach, and I failed to remove the waste tube from the bay under the left bedroom slide… time to retract the slide and undo everything I just did. Sorry happy campers, the big Cat 13 is firing back up.
The Driver’s Side Rear Slide was being retracted by my wife while I was standing by outside to open the bay door when it stopped half way. The seals were deflated and vacuumed, it wouldn’t budge. There was no unusual sound, everything thing appeared normal.
We had never experienced this before and started verifying the usual items, suspension in Travel Mode, ample air pressure, electrical power, and of course the engine was running. I flipped the slide switch in the cockpit (no for this issue)… Inspected the exterior of slide and of course the interior. Measured the front of the slide to the body and the aft side. They were within 1/8” of each other, 14” out. We tried to extend it without success. I pushed and pulled and jiggle the beast… everything was solid and not moving.
Time to call the factory. It was a Wednesday afternoon, the team was still at work. Thank you Mark, you saved the day and quite possibly the trip. 105° out with a 1/2” gap all around the sliding hole in the coach.
The issue is a blown fuse for the slide motor. The interior slide control screen did not indicate an error.
In this coach, the Valid Slide electrical panel is located in the left basement bay opposite the entry door with the Spyder Wire electrical panels, window shades controls, and 120VAC electrical panel for select items. There is a fabric panel covering the fuse blocks. The panel is covered in the same material used in the bay sidewalls, ceiling, and floor. The cover is held to the aft side panel with Velcro.
Once the cover is removed the fuse blocks can be identified. The pictures I’m posting should help understanding how the fuses are placed in the block. Gentle pull on the black tab releasing the fuse holder. Each fuse holder has two fuses, one in use and a spare. In this coach the driver’s forward slide is #1. Driver’s aft slide is #2. Aft curb is #3. If the slide has a raisable floor, there will be a fuse for it also.
The blown fuse is a 4 amp Bussmann Series Fuse. The size is listed as 1 1/4”x1/4”. I’ve ordered extra to add to my compliment a spare coach supplies.
I hope you don’t find yourself in this position when the kids are in a hurry to hit the amusement park but if you do, it’s a quick fix to get back to normal ops!
Take care!
Kristi & Jeff

My power cord for the block heater is crumbling. Does anyone know of a part number for a replacement? I see many types on ebay which all look the same but have different part numbers.

Hello All,
Went out for a regular engine crank as I do every couple of weeks. Today I noticed the transmission was off - no lights. I'll look into it further this weekend. I'll start by checking fuses. Any idea where to look next?
I found a company that will repair our circuit boards. Flight Systems Inc. 201 Hempt Rd. Mechanicsburg Pa. 717-590-7330
Any data on SGM Dash Air wiring or components? It is installed on 1482. http://www.sgmcoinc.com/index.html
We have just completed our first long trip in our coach, almost two months and over 6K miles. While I am happy to say that the coach ran great with no mechanical issues, I did notice a lot of what I would call side to side sway on some roads and believe that new shocks would help. What shocks would any of you recommend?

Gurus,
I have 5 used Goodyear airbags that came off 653 (2003) and could use new homes. They are all in reasonably good condition. Note that Firestone bags seem to work better on Newells....so think of these as emergency spares.
3 x 1R11.066
2 x 1R11.080
According to this post, the 1R11.066 are drive bags.
I am almost positive that the 1R11.080 are tag bags.
I am happy to send for just the cost of shipping. Send me a private message with your contact information if interested.
Cheers,
bill

This past week while driving back from Oklahoma, I had an alert come on the DDEC monitor "fuel temp circuit high" and check engine yellow light flash on. This was intermittent and all gauges looked fine, oil, coolant, etc. It was over 100 degrees outside and I had been driving at 60+ mph for around five hrs before it started. When the coach starts out in the morning, it takes about an hour before coming on again. I called Newell and was told it is probably a faulty sensor and as long as the coach was operating normally there was nothing to worry about for the remaining drive but to change it out or find a Detroit service center to do it. I believe it is located at the bottom of the Davco fuel filter. There are two sensors there, I believe one is the temp and the other a heater element, not sure. I have tried to research this online but not having much luck. Has anyone replaced the the fuel temp sensor, if so any details.
Thanks
