Hello Friends
Ok... Getting ready to take off today I hooked up the city water to my 2014 Newell and hit the auto water refill button to put fresh water in the coach. It runs for about 4 seconds and shuts off. (trips out). There is an alarm sound on a red top green box (valve, solenoid ? that the water goes thru to the fresh water tank). Not sure why it is doing this. Any ideas?

thanks for the help Kurt V.

Hello I recently purchased coach #383 (45' raised roof) and drove it 2500 miles from Florida to my home in Riverside county CA without issue. Lots of power from the Detroit 60! There are some other posts regarding this coach in the for sale section mentioning roof leaks which have now been all fixed. My first problem is the dash heat lever is stuck in full heat position. I have traced the cable behind the fuse panel then down to the fan box in the generator fan compartment. I am trying to find out where the heater valve on the hot water hoses from the engine is located. Also another issue is the location of the dash vent vacuum pump its not working and I cannot locate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a long weekend and finally have a place where I can get underneath the coach and do some searching for leaks etc...I was looking for a good place to place a couple of blocks and I saw a cross member behind the axle. Is that  the closest place to the front? What location do you all block? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hello,

My wife and I decided to buy a motorhome to travel around next winter with our one year old daughter to escape the Minnesota weather.  Among other things, we were inspired by the blog bumfuzzle.com.  We found a 1968 30' Newell on Craigslist two weeks ago, and it's now sitting in our driveway, undergoing a light renovation.  After tearing out the carpet I found some rotten spots in the floor I was unaware of before purchasing it (a classic tale I suppose for many first-time RV buyers), so I'm working to fix those and I resealed a bunch of things on the roof to make sure the leak is fixed.

Before finding our 1968 on Craigslist, neither of us had ever heard of Newell.  It's been fun researching the company and learning that somewhat unknowingly we bought what I would call a cool piece of history.  It's apparent that even in the early days of the company they used high quality materials and craftsmanship.  We are planning to keep the cabinetry original, as it is still in remarkably good shape for its age.  The previous owner, who had it since 1990, changed out the gas engine for an 8.2L Detroit diesel engine in 1996.

I see everyone is to put the number of their coach in their signature.  How would I go about figuring out what number my 1968 is?

Thanks!

i am planning on leaving on a trip on monday and i had problems intermittantly for a few tries with the step going up then it was ok.

so today i decided i would make sure the steps would retract.   no go.

even engine overide doesnt work.

i have the bode air door.

i disconnected the steps and they work just fine with 12v being applied to them.  i used the kwikee troubleshooting guide.

i checked the voltages at the plug and they are fine except for the door switch.  there is no voltage there.

so a few things are coming together....i have a light over the steps on the inside.  you can either turn it on all the time, or off all the time or AUTO so it goes off a few seconds after the door is closed.  the other night i noticed it stayed on and it was in auto.

so, i dont believe the controller is getting the 12v signal from the switch that knows when the door is closed to retract the steps.

so now.....the big question.  where is that switch?  i do not see one in the door frame.  and the 4 wires from the kwikee step go up to this control board in the bay to the right of the door.  one time the door wouldnt retract and i had dislodged the relay.  (a few years ago).

i took the relay out and there was a little corrosion so i tried to clean it up and i used some dielectric grease on it.  still nothing.

is there a trigger switch on the bode air door mechanism to say when the door is closed?

the puzzler is that it wont go up when the engine is running either.  that doesnt make sense.  unless it goes through that relay as well.

any wisdom here?

thanks

tom

Hopefully this won't be the dumbest question asked, but here goes -
Are there any electrical schematics available for my coach?

Over the years, there have been some electrical modifications - some of which I'm sure Newell wouldn't have authorized.
Would be nice to have an idea what is supposed to be there before I go poking around.

Thanks!

Finally upgraded from a 32' Airstream travel trailer to a real motorhome.
I was planning on converting a 1955 Greyhound Scenicruiser, but after looking at how long it would take & how well built the Newell is - it was a no brainer.

The 1000 mile trip home was great.

Now to learn all the features this coach has & how to operate them properly.

I was on the fmca site today and saw they have a new roadside assistance program and it is only 99 bucks a year.  evidently it started end of last year.

i have had coachnet for many years and it has worked great.  just used it a few weeks ago.  but it is more expensive.

has anyone changed over to the fmca one?

my coachnet is up for renewal this summer.
