Well......I've got a Celtic Rock band who wants me to haul their band to a gig in Cincinatti, Ohio (about 500 miles -round-trip). I'm not in the "band bus" business but I am considering doing it since we're friends. They offered to pay so I will just charge what it costs to run the Newell and donate my time. I'm curious if anybody has calculated the total cost per mile to run their Newell (including tires/oil/etc)

Hi all,
i bought an engine scanner diagnostic tool for my 1990 8v92 with ddec2. it provides all the detroit proprietary info that the vmspc does not.
so if anyone is in town and wants to see what info is on their system, come on by.
unfortunately it will not work with anything above a ddec2.

i would be interested in hearing the experiences any of you have had in driving and riding in the different generations of newells.
the 70's classic to the 80's classic to the new 2000 body style in 1990 to the change to the series 60 in 94/95 to ones with slides starting in 97.
then once the steerable tag entered in and the newer body styles after that.
for me, i have driven my 90 and my 2002. the differences are subtle but they are different. they both ride very nice. the 2002 seems to have a little better braking, though hard to tell. the steering wheel is smaller on the 2002 (i really like that big wheel on my 90). the 2002 is a little stronger off the line (if i was drag racing).
bottom line, they both ride and drive very nice, just different. though a little hard to describe how different.
definitely, the turning radius is ALOT worse on the 2002. no surprise given 45'8" compared to 38' no tag on the 90. so backing into my driveway is quite a bit easier with the 90.
i would be interested in your different experiences in driving different vintages.

Last year I replaced all three HCVs because two of them were cracked in the same place where the metal fittings screwed into the plastic body. I replaced them with the new blue colored universal Ridewell HCV.
After I did that, I noticed the air compressor cycled excessively, about once every two miles. Before it might cycle once in thirty miles. I suspected the valves, but also suspected that I had missed some set up trick. I could see the supply side needle move downward as I drove. I also noticed that the supply air needle would bounce when I would hit a bump. It wasn't that way before the new HCVs.
After talking with Ridewell, I learned they changed the design of the valve to be fast acting. It adds and dumps air at the slightest change of the arm. The engineer told me I need the Slo Response valve that has the GREY body. Lovely. I didn't find those critters on the internet, so I used another source. http://heightcontrolvalve.com/
I bought the standard deadband delayed response valve. They are different for right and left. The one under my front was a right hand valve. If you use these make sure you tell them you need 1/4 inch quick connect fittings. They normally come with SAE threads.
I am happy to report after an afternoon under the bus that the air use has returned to normal.

howdy, i think one of you ought to seriously consider the 2003 4 slide front entry newell that is on ebay right now. it is in the phoenix metro area and i would be glad to go look at it for you....

this was done for a european game show and you can watch the contestants faces in the bottom right hand corner as the video goes on.

it is quite amazing to watch. pretty sure darlene wouldnt let me try....though i think this 40' neoplan has a shorter turning radius than my beast.
as my daughter would say....the only other person that could do this is chuck norris.

i was reading a blog today about the adventures of a full timer in a neoplan. he did a blog today about his tag tire change. and he showed a picture of a totally bald tire for the tag. he says his 90's neoplan has a steerable tag and it really causes a lot of wear on the tag.
so he runs them bald before changing them and always puts the tire from the front on the tag and gets new ones for the front. granted he drives alot so gets more miles on his tires than i will ever. but...i am curious as to how much life the tag on our rigs get.
and if i should do something similar and rotate the front tires to the tag (after getting bigger rims for the tag) when i need to change the fronts. in 4 or more years....
i have a really sharp backing up turn into my driveway.
what kind of wear do you guys with tags get on those tires?
i dont change the pressure on the tag when i back up either. do you guys? i have a switch that will put more or less pressure on the tag.
i am still a little puzzled when to use it.
any wisdom here?
thanks

Found a beautiful, new, park near Reno: Sparks Marina RV Park, 1200 E. Lincoln Way, Sparks, NV

Apparently my right turn signal "relay" (I think that's what it's called) has gone bad. A blinking signal is coming in to the relay, but the relay is not activating (clicking) like the left one does. Here is a picture of it.....there are no identifying numbers on it. Is this a standard off the shelf part, and should I be able to find it at Napa, Autozone, O'Reilly, etc? There are three of these on the back panel....one for left turn, one for brakes and one for right turn.
Thanks!

I am going to replace the felt runners in my slide windows so they actually open. They are brittle and clogged with dirt. I called Newell parts and they sell it for $3 a linear foot. I assume that price is reasonable. Can any of you tell if there is somewhere else to buy it cheaper? Also are there any special tricks to changing these?
